The DENSO College Program provides students with practical; career specific work experience needed for professional growth and success in today’s competitive job market. Our Interns work alongside experienced DENSO professionals who are supporting customers on advancing new technologies.

Some example College Program positions may include the following:

Product Design Engineer (Open To All Engineering Majors):

  • Practices strong project management and communication skills
  • Exhibits strong knowledge or interest for design and troubleshooting but also demonstrates some aptitude for engineering concepts
  • Develops software tools, routinely programming in LabVIEW or other languages
  • Displays strong problem solving / critical thinking / investigation abilities
  • Follows a deep, self-motivation to improve things and innovate solutions for new problems. Including themselves & their own thinking

Process Design Engineer (Open To All Engineering Majors):

  • Develop processes for new product introduction
  • Responsible for launching new projects (including obtaining funds, obtaining approval from upper management, and project management from project start until mass production launch)
  • Develop machine specifications, select machine supplier, conduct design reviews, conduct machine acceptance tests, and procure new equipment
  • Interact & assist with programming various DENSO systems including PLC logic, control systems, robots, cobots and vision systems.
  • Create documentation including PFMEA, Process Control Sheets, Process Flows, instructional documents, government forms, etc.
  • General production engineering tasks upon request (including providing line support to final assembly lines, line layout introduction/optimization, time studies, cost analysis, capability studies, defect root cause analysis and countermeasure development, ROI studies, & cost reduction activities)

Tester Design Engineer (Electrical Engineering Major Required):

  • Ensure quality for products through the development of hardware and software on various types of automated inspection equipment.
  • Design various hardware including automated tester, fixture interface, bare board fixtures, etc. that will be designed from inspection specifications.
  • Utilize various software languages including C, C++, Delphi, LabView, TestExec, JAST, etc.
  • Responsible for new product preparation, production line support, localization of fixtures, localization of test systems, and numerous other tasks.

Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer (Open To All Engineering Majors):

  • Support problem investigation for both internal customers & suppliers
  • Support supplier selection, development, and systems management
  • Provide engineering support to inspection departments
  • Develop detailed test plans to evaluate new suppliers, parts, materials, and assemblies
  • Understand, document, and improve supplier processes

Quality Assurance Engineer (Open to All Engineering Majors):

  • Develop detailed test plans to evaluate new model activity and engineering changes
  • Manage projects
  • Lead problem investigation both internally and at customers
  • Support customer quality systems management
  • Provide engineering support to inspection departments

Industrial Engineer/Continuous Improvement Specialist:

  • Participate & lead in various continuous improvement (kaizen project) designed to help achieving business targets in both planned and urgent scenarios throughout DENSO.
  • Responsible for project management of functional activities related to the Toyota Production System (TPS) and Operations Excellence activities.
  • Promote, facilitate, and coach TPS concepts for DENSO skill development.
  • Participate & lead in various problem-solving activities at multiple DENSO sites performance.
  • Requires ability to quickly access current condition, set strategy, organize resources and make action for immediate improvement utilizing Industrial Engineering concepts and tools.
  • Requires strong people and process management skills, the ability to develop good relationships, facilitation of effective communication between departments, capture / understand key data, and ability to adapt to changes in work environment.
  • Requires strong understanding of TPS principles and system applications throughout the supply chain.

Database Administrator (Computer Science or Similar Majors Required):

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Database security management and oversight
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers

Software Developer (Computer Science or Similar Major Required):

  • Plan, develop, test and maintain production software applications at DENSO manufacturing facilities.
  • Test and implement configuration changes and assist in the design of software applications to meet both functional and technical requirements.
  • Support the technical design process by participating in the analysis of technical application requirements
  • Assist in implementing analyses that will identify requirements related to people, processes and technology
  • Assisting in the integration of technical and application components
  • Code & test program modules; assisting in design
  • Maintain, tune and repair applications
  • Participate in execution and documentation of tests
  • Execute conversion plans and document possible improvements; identify disruptions in the processes
  • Working knowledge of C# with Visual Studio using Webforms, MVC and Entity Framework

Supply Chain Analyst (Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or Similar Major Required) Maryville, TN ONLY:

  • Provides support for Production Control activities, which may include monitoring work-in-progress, maintaining and developing Production Control systems, troubleshooting issues pertaining to Production Control systems and activities and developing appropriate countermeasures, coordinating scheduling of engineering changes and new product activities, reading drawings, understanding Engineering Change documents and conducting parts shortage investigations.
  • Support negotiation of complex situations with customers, including financial negotiations for reimbursement of air freight and deadstock claims, as well as adjusted delivery schedules as necessary.
  • Analyzes market trends, customer inventory levels, and environmental changes and how they impact DMTN sales and inventory.
  • Engages in inventory control to meet numerical targets and ensure accuracy.
  • Performs raw material and parts localization control, phase-out control, ordering of local parts, new local parts and raw material start-up.

Accounting/Finance Specialist (Accounting/Finance, Business or Similar Major Required):

  • Creates basic journal entries and work paper reconciliation and analysis.
  • Creates new assets, runs depreciation and prepares necessary reporting.
  • Monitors and approves tooling records, processes invoices and mails to customer, assists sales in resolving past due tooling records.
  • Suggests processes improvements for area of responsibility.
  • Prepares bank reconciliation and cash account analysis.
  • Completes financial reporting as necessary

Sales Specialist (Business Management, Engineering, or Similar Major Required):

  • Acts as a liaison between customers, plants and affiliate personnel to coordinate and resolve commercial and business related issues. Coordinates pre-production activities including processing orders, quoting pricing, developing new product schedules, coordinating tooling, ensuring part readiness, etc. Assists with program timing and related activities including design changes, build out of vehicle, part number changes, obsolescence claims and packaging approvals.
  • Interacts with and acts as a liaison between customers, DENSO plants regarding customer requirements and capacity issues. Works with production control as needed. Coordinates production parts approval process (PPAP) schedule and ensures launch preparedness by managing late design changes and ensuring plants meet delivery targets.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with internal and external customers to address and resolve daily issues, gather information, focus on customer and competitor trends and relay pertinent information back to management.
  • Assists in cost analysis, tracking and coordination activities as required. Assists plants in investigating value-added (VA) opportunities and obtaining customer approval of process and design changes related to cost saving efforts.

Qualifications

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Now and in the future, must have unlimited authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Junior / Senior university classification
  • Must be willing to work 40 hours a week during Internship / Co-op
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office tools ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Ms. Project, Visio)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work in groups and independently
  • Ability to travel
