Job Description

Crystalbrook Riley is a five-star luxury hotel in Cairns, where contemporary elegance meets a relaxed, tropical spirit.

Always living in the moment, Crystalbrook Riley brings together striking design, thoughtful luxury and a strong connection to place. With an environmentally conscious approach, a celebration of the contemporary and a passion for elevated guest experiences, Crystalbrook Riley offers sophisticated accommodation, vibrant dining, distinctive events and memorable moments shaped by the energy, colour and spirit of Cairns.

Bold, stylish and effortlessly welcoming, Crystalbrook Riley is more than a hotel. It is a place to connect, celebrate and experience luxury with personality.

The Opportunity

Bring your passion for food to Crystalbrook Riley in the heart of tropical Cairns, and join a culinary team that takes pride in creating memorable dining experiences.

We are seeking a Demi Chef who enjoys the energy of service and is ready to continue developing their craft. Reporting to the Executive Chef and working closely with our Chefs de Partie, you will prepare, cook and plate dishes with care, delivering consistent flavour, quality and presentation.

You will help keep your section organised and ready for service, support junior chefs and contribute to a kitchen where knowledge is shared and everyone plays a part. Alongside maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety, you will use ingredients thoughtfully and minimise waste, supporting our commitment to responsible luxury.

This is a full-time role, working 38 hours per week, offering the chance to build your skills, contribute your ideas and learn alongside experienced culinary professionals.

The Talent

You take pride in what you put on the plate and understand the preparation, care and teamwork behind a successful service. You bring a positive, practical approach to the kitchen, communicate clearly and enjoy learning from those around you.

Whether you are an experienced Commis Chef ready for your next step or a Demi Chef looking to build on your experience, you are motivated to grow and contribute to the team.

You will bring:

• A Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent
• Previous experience as a Demi Chef or Commis Chef in a professional kitchen
• A sound understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety practices
• The ability to organise your preparation and maintain quality throughout a busy service
• Strong attention to flavour, presentation and consistency
• Clear communication skills and a willingness to support and share knowledge with junior chefs
• Availability across a rotating seven-day roster, including weekends and public holidays
• A passion for food, an openness to feedback and a willingness to keep learning

Why Us

At Crystalbrook Collection, you will work alongside exceptional people in a supportive, collaborative environment where you are encouraged to grow, contribute and create memorable experiences.

We are proud to offer a range of industry-leading benefits designed to support your lifestyle, career and wellbeing, including:

• 50% Food & Beverage discount across all Crystalbrook restaurants and bars
• $99 room rates and a generous friends and family accommodation discount
• Enhanced parental leave and lifestyle benefits
• A commitment to a greener future through responsible and sustainable practices
• Access to our internal mobility program and team reward schemes
• Online learning and training with tailored career development pathways
• A culture of collaboration, elevating experiences and celebrating diversity
• Limitless career opportunities in a fast-growing, dynamic and progressive environment
• Regular service recognition and team engagement events
