Job Description

Our client is looking for a Defense Business Development Manager to build and lead defense market growth for a global manufacturer of ruggedized technology solutions used in mission-critical environments. This role is not traditional sales. It’s focused on identifying where to compete, navigating defense procurement channels, and helping win long-cycle government and prime contractor opportunities.

You’ll work directly with leadership to shape strategy, uncover opportunities, and position products within defense programs across naval, marine, and rugged applications.

What makes this role different is the focus on capture strategy and opportunity identification, not just closing deals. If you understand how defense contracts are won and know how to get in front of the right people, this is where you can make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and qualify defense opportunities through SAM.gov, prime contractor portals, and market intelligence
  • Develop and execute capture strategies for RFQs, RFPs, and long-cycle defense programs
  • Build relationships with defense prime contractors (L3Harris, Lockheed Martin, BAE, etc.) and key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support bid strategy, pricing, and proposal development
  • Position ruggedized technology solutions within naval, marine, and mission-critical applications

Requirements

  • Experience in defense business development, capture management, or government contracting
  • Strong understanding of federal procurement processes and defense program lifecycles
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and pursue new contract opportunities
  • Experience working with or selling into defense prime contractors
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
