Job Description

At Coras, we fuse expertise with humanity, rigor with creativity and innovation with curiosity. At the core of our business is the belief that a diversity of perspectives is the key to new thinking. That’s why our team brings together deep industry experience with some of the brightest young minds in Australia. Our values are more than just words on an email signature; we’re driven by an ethos that inspires and governs everything we do.

The Role:

We have opportunities for engineers with professional experience to join our growing Maritime Sustainment team in Sydney.

Working alongside experienced consultants, engineers and Defence professionals, you will support the sustainment and asset management of maritime platforms, systems and capabilities.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver engineering and sustainment support to Defence and Navy clients across the lifecycle of maritime capabilities.
  • Apply engineering and systems thinking to help solve practical sustainment and technical challenges.
  • Support the development and improvement of engineering, sustainment and through life management processes.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, analysis and other engineering artefacts.
  • Work closely with experienced team members, Defence, Navy and industry stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical outcomes.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and work packages, working independently where appropriate while contributing to a broader team.
  • Work across a broad range of maritime sustainment activities, platforms and systems while developing your consulting and engineering capability.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and growing Maritime Sustainment team, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility as your experience develops.

Our Ideal Candidate:

You are an early career engineer with strong technical foundations and an interest in applying your skills to complex engineering and sustainment challenges within the Defence Maritime environment.

You do not need to be an expert in maritime sustainment, but you will bring strong engineering fundamentals, sound professional judgement and the ability to contribute effectively from the outset. We are looking for engineers who are capable, curious and proactive, who can think critically, solve problems and take responsibility for delivering high quality work. You will work alongside experienced engineers and consultants while building broader experience across Defence Maritime sustainment and consulting.

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Professional engineering experience.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to apply structured thinking to technical problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce clear, high quality technical documentation.
  • The ability to take ownership of your work while seeking guidance when required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • An interest in developing relationships and working collaboratively with clients and stakeholders.
  • An interest in building your knowledge of Defence Maritime sustainment and developing your career within a consulting environment.

Having experience in any of the following would be advantageous, but is not essential:

  • Defence, Navy, maritime or naval shipbuilding environments.
  • Maritime sustainment or asset management.
  • Systems Engineering.
  • Integrated Logistics Support or through life support.
  • Reliability, maintenance, configuration or engineering management.
  • Engineering policy, processes, governance or technical assurance.
  • Consulting or contracting within Defence.

As we are a Defence consultancy, you must also have the ability to obtain and maintain an AGSVA security clearance.
