The Dean is the head of the College of Arts & Sciences and assists the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in accomplishing the University’s academic experience, student success and faculty development goals by coordinating and monitoring all aspects of academic programs, student progress and student learning outcomes throughout their university matriculation. The Dean works as a member of a team by collaborating with faculty, staff and administration in responding to outside accrediting agencies and effectively engaging in strategic planning, performance evaluations, program reviews and other assessments of the University’s effectiveness.
Duties include, but are not limited to: serving as a channel of communication between College of Arts and Sciences faculty and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs; promoting faculty and staff professional growth; ensuring the quality of the College of Arts & Sciences’ academic programs, services, faculty, and staff; preparing and administering the College of Arts & Sciences’ annual budget; carrying out strategic planning; recommending appointments of faculty and staff; providing resources to support the goals and objectives of the College of Arts & Sciences; and serving as an advocate for excellence in teaching, research, student learning outcomes, and community outreach and service. The Dean supervises faculty and staff members.

Founded in 1875, Huston-Tillotson University is Austin's first institution of higher education.
