Summary: The dean of students enforces school policies, monitors and manages student behavior, and assists the director of student life providing mission-aligned support optimizing student engagement and student wellness.
Student Accountability
- Oversees student conduct by providing students and families with information about school policies and expectations
- Runs daily detentions for students with code of conduct issues
- In collaboration with the director of student life, establishes restorative justice plans for students involved with code of conduct issues
- Collaborates with the director of student life, the director of teaching and learning, and counselors on issues affecting academic progress (i.e. learning, classroom behavior, academic integrity, academic success, attendance, etc.) to effectively make recommendations for student improvement
- In conjunction with the director of student life, develops and implements a system and guidelines for the safe, effective supervision of students throughout the school program-this includes weekly faculty/staff supervision and event supervision and provides support during these events
- Documents, monitors and manages student accountability challenges with the support of the director of student life
- In conjunction with the attendance clerk/student health center support and school counselors, creates and monitors individual student health plans and/or restorative behavioral plans; inclusive of support for students in need of prescription medication
- Creates and monitors a system for documenting incidents related to a medical diagnosis.
- Signs-off on all Planned Absence Forms, following up with families with lengthy requested days away
- Supports relevant parent education programs regarding school policies and conduct
- Acts as the student life faculty/staff liaison training and updating colleagues on student protocols and faculty and staff expectations for enforcement
- Proactively bolsters the work of the student engagement team (counseling, college counseling, career & life success, campus ministry, learning resource support, and educational innovation) to elevate all aspects of the student experience. Additionally, communicates with the director of teaching regularly to support faculty in meeting the needs and expectations of student policies.
Student Engagement
- Works with the director of operations to manage student safety during school hours
- Provides regular reporting to the director of student life regarding indicators of student accountability and engagement
- Provides regular reporting to the director of student life about trends related to policy and conduct, assuring appropriate action and follow ups are addressed and documented
- Works with the director of mission and ministry to assure appropriate pastoral care and counseling support for students and families
- Documents, communicates and celebrates student accomplishments with the support of the director of communications
QualificationsMinimum
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in educational administration
- Counseling or leadership
- 2-5 years of leadership or student management in a school setting
