Job Description

Primary Purpose:

The Dean of Instruction is responsible for improving student academic performance by providing leadership in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. This position supports teachers and staff through coaching, training, data analysis, and implementation of effective instructional practices to ensure all students achieve high academic standards.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership or Curriculum & Instruction
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification
  • Texas Principal Certification

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum planning, instructional coaching, or academic intervention (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of middle school curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
  • Proficient in analyzing and using academic data to drive instruction
  • Ability to lead professional development and instructional coaching
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to support diverse student populations, including ELs and SPED
  • Familiarity with state accountability systems (STAAR, TELPAS, etc.)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Leadership:

  1. Collaborate with the principal and leadership team to develop and implement campus instructional goals
  2. Lead the implementation of district curriculum and instructional initiatives
  3. Model and promote high expectations for instructional quality and student learning
  4. Assist teachers in developing and refining instructional strategies aligned to state standards

Curriculum and Assessment:

  1. Oversee campus instructional planning and ensure alignment to TEKS and district pacing
  2. Guide the development and use of formative and summative assessments
  3. Monitor progress of campus instructional programs and recommend adjustments

Teacher Support and Coaching:

  1. Conduct classroom walkthroughs and provide timely feedback to teachers
  2. Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on student achievement
  3. Develop and deliver professional development sessions based on campus needs
  4. Support new and struggling teachers through mentoring and coaching

Data Analysis:

  1. Analyze state and local assessment data to identify instructional gaps and student needs
  2. Support teachers and leadership in interpreting data and planning responsive instruction
  3. Monitor student performance to ensure all subgroups are making adequate progress

Compliance and Support:

  1. Support campus compliance with district, state, and federal instructional requirements
  2. Assist with development and implementation of campus improvement plans
  3. Participate in ARD, LPAC, and RtI meetings as needed to support student learning

Other Duties:

  1. Attend district instructional leadership meetings and training
  2. Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal

*Minimum Salary $83,742
*Salary is 226 Day Calendar
* Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
