Job Category: Education, The Dean of Academic Affairs is responsible for all academic programs delivered on/from the Florida Campus and oversees student education and academic faculty performance. The Dean of Academic Affairs administers the Doctor of Chiropractic program for the Florida Campus.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Responsible to the assigned administrator and has a support responsibility to all other departments and college personnel as necessary.
  • Responsible for supervision of department personnel and others as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Fosters an organizational climate that embraces and promotes the Mission, Vision, Values, and the Practice Paradigm of Palmer College of Chiropractic.
  • Provides leadership to faculty and staff to ensure the highest standards of quality and service are maintained in execution of academic programs.
  • Represents Palmer College at the local and national level by engaging in networking and educational opportunities and promoting the reputation of the College in a positive way.
  • Identifies and develops business relationships with external organizations/providers/community groups to promote Palmer College.

Supervision

  • Supervises faculty in accordance with the Florida Faculty Handbook.
  • Supervises staff and Associate Deans.
  • Directs faculty evaluations for continuous performance improvement.
  • Promotes faculty scholarship and development as essential facets of professional growth.
  • Recruits, mentors, develops, and retains model faculty.
  • Effectively communicates with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and external communities.
  • Coordinates the activities and resource allocations of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to enhance faculty development and performance.

Division Effectiveness

  • Examines and interprets institutional data.
  • Oversees the implementation of quality improvement efforts designed to improve student performance in Palmer’s academic programs.
  • Collaborates with the Assessment, Libraries, CTL, Student Affairs, and Institutional Effectiveness departments/divisions.
  • Provides reports to the College Provost as requested.
  • Responsible for the development, assessment, and performance of program curricula.
  • Responsible for the integration of clinical and classroom education.

Integration

  • Work closely with the Clinic Affairs for continuity in student education.
  • Work closely with the other divisions (e.g., Student Affairs, Admissions, etc.) in support of College programs.

Planning and Budgeting

  • Leads strategic planning and strategic plan implementation for Academic Affairs.
  • Oversees the budgeting process for Academic Affairs.
  • Coordinates the budgeting process for CTL with the Davenport Dean of Programs.
  • Collaborates with other divisions to develop and manage strategic planning and budgets for Academic Affairs.

Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with College policy and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Reviews and responds to legal concerns or requests regarding Academic Affairs.

Service

  • Serve on committees as assigned or as designated by College policy.

Other

  • Performs all responsibilities in a manner that fully complies with Palmer’s Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action policy
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Delegation: due to the large number of tasks that come under the purview of the Dean, can allocate duties effectively and monitor outcomes frequently.

  • Ability to perform assigned duties with time pressures and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to utilize general office equipment and other necessary equipment.
  • Ability to utilize College hardware and software.
  • Ability to travel when necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate degree (doctoral degree preferred) in higher education or Doctor of Chiropractic degree; five years of administrative experience and established administrative experience in program development and assessment is required. Additional education/experience in distance education, healthcare, analytics, and/or leadership is preferred. A successful candidate should expect to pursue additional training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Perform sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature-controlled office setting.
  • Perform cognitive functions associated with complex work assignments.
  • Frequent need to repeatedly stand, stoop, sit, bend at the waist, walk considerable distances, lift objects up to 40 pounds, have full use of the upper extremities, perform fine motor movements with the hands and perform other similar actions during the workday.
