We are currently seeking Dean Center of Excellence who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

The Dean provides leadership in the development and maintenance of a state-of-the-art Center of Excellence. Provides leadership in the oversight of effective and efficient scheduling of program offerings throughout the district for the assigned Center of Excellence. In coordination with the appropriate Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) and President, the Dean provides vision, motivation, coordination, and support to the assigned Chairs and associated faculty. Works with the System Office to ensure compliance of programs with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) and ensures that sufficient courses are offered and available for students at all assigned campuses for their instructional area.

Leads high-level engagement and participation in the growth of the assigned Center of Excellence, inclusive of identifying and acquiring the latest technology and equipment. Provides leadership and oversight of positive performance for assigned programs in terms of student enrollment, persistence, completion, transfer, and job placement rates.

Has the key institutional responsibility for creating, fostering and maintaining a well-functioning, respectful, collaborative, professional, and engaged instructional team fully committed to motivating, and invigorating faculty and staff across the district in delivery of the related instructional programs.

Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets, are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Manages Talent Engagement activities for direct reports in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, and performance evaluations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Collaborate with appropriate college-based staff, including Presidents, other Deans and Directors to grow area related programs district-wide, the addition/revision of assigned degree and certificate programs, administer District policy regarding assigned programs that will aid in maximizing enrollment growth and revenue generation, and monitor outcomes.

Compile, publicize, and maintain current university articulation agreements for assigned instructional programs, and to ensure that students have a full range of opportunities for initial and ongoing education.

Collaborate with all program personnel to provide active and collaborative learning activities for students, including the opportunities for field trips, internships, etc. that enhance the educational experience, employment, and transfer opportunities.

Lead the development and implementation of curriculum, programs, catalog, and course information for assigned programs and work with Chairs on the curriculum development and maintenance in areas of responsibility.

Report to the AVC and President, as appropriate, on plans and progress involving student enrollment, contact hours, fill rates, and student persistence, completion, placement rates, and if appropriate, accreditation status and licensure rates.

Lead an annual review and report findings to the AVC and President on related program needs and provide recommendations to the AVC regarding instructional technology.

Review assigned Program Reviews, Annual Planning Reports, and Annual Learning Assessment Reports completed by Program Coordinators and provide recommendations for improvement to the appropriate AVC.

Monitor accurate and current information of assigned program websites and social media sites.

Develop grant proposals in coordination with the Grants Office to maintain the standards required in the field and deepen partnerships in the industry.

Develop, maintain and serve on advisory boards to assist with program development, resource development and represent HCC to the appropriate industry.

Serve on College and District committees as appropriate and act as liaison with District, State, and Federal governing bodies regarding HCC programs and practices as needed.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in an academic area appropriate to supervision of programs assigned required; Doctorate degree preferred
  • 6 years’ combined experience in management of programs related to an academic or industry-specific setting with increasing levels of responsibility required; including 3 years full-time teaching experience in higher education (for Academic positions) or 5 years’ experience in the industry (for Workforce positions)
  • Grant management experience preferred

Licensing & Certification

Working Conditions

General office. May frequently be required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, photocopier, file cabinets, and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach and bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.

Your work: A Team Effort
