
The High School/Dual Enrollment Child Development Teacher provides rigorous instruction in Child Development to high school students enrolled in a dual credit course aligned with an approved college partner. This position ensures that curriculum, instruction, and assessment meet both high school graduation requirements and postsecondary academic standards. The teacher fosters a college-ready learning environment while supporting adolescents in the study of child growth, development, family systems, and early childhood education principles.
Duties & Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
• Deliver college-aligned Child Development curriculum in accordance with the partnering institution’s standards and course syllabus.
• Develop and implement lesson plans that reflect college-level rigor while remaining developmentally appropriate for high school students.
• Integrate research-based instructional strategies and differentiated instruction.
• Maintain pacing, content coverage, and assessment standards required for dual enrollment credit.
• Incorporate experiential learning opportunities, projects, and applied practice when appropriate.
Assessment & Academic Standards
• Design and administer assessments consistent with college expectations.
• Evaluate and document student performance in accordance with both high school and college grading policies.
• Maintain accurate academic records and submit required documentation to the partnering college.
• Prepare students for postsecondary expectations, including academic writing and research standards.
Student Support & Classroom Environment
• Establish a structured, respectful, and academically focused classroom environment.
• Provide academic guidance and support to students navigating college-level coursework.
• Communicate regularly with students and families regarding progress and expectations.
• Promote ethical practices related to child development and early childhood education.
Compliance & Collaboration
• Maintain required credentials to teach dual enrollment coursework per state and college requirements.
• Collaborate with high school administration and college faculty to ensure course alignment and compliance.
• Participate in required professional development related to dual enrollment and content area.
• Adhere to Heritage Academy policies, state standards, and higher education partnership agreements.
Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths
Education: Master’s degree in the content area OR master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Child Development or a closely related discipline (per dual enrollment requirements) preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Family Studies, or related field, and 3 years of experience.
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of prior experience teaching dual enrollment or college-level coursework. Experience working with high school students preferred.

Physical functions: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment. Must reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Equipment used: Frequent computer use is expected
Work Environment: A typical classroom environment is expected; occasional exposure to outdoor weather.
