Position: SAP Technical Consultant
Level: Deputy Department Manager

The SAP Basis Consultant is responsible for the independent administration, monitoring, and operational support of SAP systems across the organization's landscape. This role ensures system stability, performance, and security on a day-to-day basis, while actively contributing to maintenance planning, incident resolution, and continuous improvement of Basis operations.
The role works closely with the Senior Basis Consultant on complex technical matters and interfaces with functional teams, business stakeholders, and SAP support as required. It is suited for a technically capable individual who can execute the full scope of standard Basis tasks independently and is developing toward broader ownership in areas such as landscape design, DR strategy, and vendor negotiation.
RESPONSIBILITY
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing daily system monitoring across all SAP systems, including availability, performance, database health, short dumps, cancelled background jobs, and backup status
- Supporting P1/P2 incident resolution by executing assigned actions, assisting in stakeholder updates, and preparing RCA drafts for senior review
- Managing the full user lifecycle, including creation, modification, deletion, FFID requests, inactive user reviews, and license charge-out
- Executing normal and urgent transport to production, coordinating with functional teams on scheduling and release cycles, and escalating conflicts as required
- Applying SAP Notes independently; executing kernel patches and support package applications under senior guidance with full pre/post checks
- Performing SAP quarterly maintenance tasks and supporting unplanned maintenance, with awareness of the business calendar to minimize operational impact
- Managing and optimizing periodic batch jobs and handling printer creation, maintenance, and troubleshooting independently
- Monitoring certificate expiry and executing renewals for SAP and related systems per schedule
- Opening and following up on SAP support tickets via the SAP for Me portal for standard issues; escalating complex or delayed cases to the senior consultant
- Participating in SAP ECS weekly meetings and raising technical questions and clarifications under senior guidance
- Performing basic BTP configuration, including subaccount setup, destination, and connectivity; escalating complex integration issues
- Using Cloud ALM for system monitoring, task management, and operational analytics
- Maintaining and updating operational runbooks and SOPs to reflect the current system state following any changes
- Coordinating with functional teams on data archiving, Fiori/BTP support, and ad-hoc project-related Basis tasks
- Supporting internal and external audits by independently handling standard audit requests and evidence preparation
QULIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field minimum 5 years of hands-on SAP Basis experience
- Experience in at least one full SAP project lifecycle (implementation or upgrade)
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in SAP Basis administration: system monitoring, user management, background jobs, transport management, and printer administration
- Working knowledge of SAP HANA operations: backup, restore verification, space monitoring, and routine housekeeping
- Familiarity with SAP security concepts: role maintenance, authorization request handling, and SoD conflict awareness
- Ability to apply SAP Notes and execute kernel/SP patches with pre/post validation
- Experience with SAP quarterly maintenance and certificate management
- Ability to open, manage, and follow up SAP support tickets via SAP for Me
- Basic knowledge of BTP concepts: subaccount, destination, and connectivity configuration
- Understanding of DR concepts and ability to participate in and execute DR test activities
- Experience working in an AMS (Application Management Services) environment is an advantage
- Familiarity with Cloud ALM for operational monitoring, Joule, and Signavio is an advantage
- Exposure to SAP RISE or cloud-based SAP environments is a plus
