Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
The Zumiez Trucking Company (ZTC) driver is responsible for safely operating company vehicles to transport goods, materials, and equipment to designated locations in a timely, accurate, and professional manner. This role requires adherence to all company policies, Department of Transportation requirements, traffic laws, safety procedures, and customer service standards. ZTC drivers will perform vehicle inspections, secure loads, complete required documentation, and communicate effectively with the Traffic department, warehouse, operations, and vendor/customer contacts.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Operate commercial vehicles safely and in compliance with all federal, state, local, and company requirements.
- Transport freight, products, materials, or equipment to assigned destinations according to established routes, schedules, and delivery instructions.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any defects, safety concerns, mechanical issues, accidents, or violations promptly.
- Load, unload, verify, secure, and protect cargo as needed to prevent damage, shifting, shortages, or delivery errors.
- Maintain accurate records, including delivery paperwork, mileage, hours of service, inspection reports, fuel receipts, and other required documentation.
- Communicate with Traffic team, supervisors, other warehouse teams, and vendors regarding delivery status, delays, route changes, or service issues.
- Follow all safety procedures when operating vehicles, handling freight, backing, parking, fueling, coupling, uncoupling, and working in loading or unloading areas.
- Plan and navigate routes using GPS, dispatch instructions, road conditions, traffic updates, and delivery priorities.
- Represent the company professionally through safe driving habits, courteous communication, and respectful customer interactions.
- Keep assigned vehicle clean, fueled, organized, and ready for operation.
- Comply with all applicable Department of Transportation, hours-of-service, drug and alcohol, and company safety requirements.
- Assist with warehouse or operational tasks when needed and when aligned with business needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic Requirements
- 21+ years of age
- Valid state-issued Driver’s License
- Have and maintain acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and ability to meet company driving standards
- Pass a FCRA Authorized Background check
- Pass a DOT approved Medical Exam pass (biennial renewal required)
- Knowledge of safe driving practices, traffic laws, vehicle inspection procedures, and cargo securement requirements.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow delivery instructions, route information, safety policies, and regulatory paperwork.
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to lift from floor to above the head up to 50 lbs. frequently, & 75 lbs. occasionally
- Must be able to sit/walk for up to 8-10 hours
- Must be able to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, twist, & reach
- Ability to work in varied temperatures and environments, both indoors & outdoors
- Ability to utilize material handling equipment safely to move, load, unload truck
- Ability to perform truck driving skills safely & consistently including but not limited to following distance, changing lanes, backing up, parking & securing truck & cargo.
- Ability to work any hours between 6:00am – 11:30pm, including overtime and weekends (rare)
