The DC Community Impact Scholars Graduate Assistant supports the administration, programming, and student engagement efforts of the DC Community Impact Scholars Program. The Graduate Assistant serves as a key member of the program team, assisting with program operations, event coordination, communications, student support, and community engagement activities. This position offers hands-on experience in higher education administration, student development, community-engaged learning, and program assessment.
Essential Functions:
Assist with planning and implementation of Impact Scholars programming, workshops, retreats, service events, and community partner activities.
Support communication with current scholars, prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
Maintain program records, databases, attendance tracking, and assessment materials.
Assist with marketing and outreach efforts, including newsletter development and social media content.
Provide logistical support for meetings, events, and recruitment activities.
Support recruitment and selection activities for future Impact Scholars cohorts.
Attend and support occasional evening or weekend program activities as needed.
Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the DC Community Impact Scholars Program staff.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
10 - 20 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$20.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Current American University graduate student in good academic standing.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Experience working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Demonstrated commitment to community engagement, leadership development, social impact, or related areas.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Prior experience in student affairs, higher education, nonprofit organizations, community engagement, or program administration.
Experience coordinating events or managing projects.
Familiarity with Canva, Qualtrics, Microsoft Forms, social media management, or website content management.
Previous participation in leadership, service-learning, civic engagement, or scholar programs.

This position is available only to enrolled American University graduate students.

Some evening and occasional weekend hours may be required for program events.
