Senior Db2 for z/OS DBA – Precisely Connect CDC

Location: Remote

Contract: 3+ months, with potential for longer-term opportunity

Schedule: Full-time, up to 40 hours/week

Start: ASAP

On-Call: Occasional on-call and weekend support required

Interview: One interview with the hiring manager and technical team

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Db2 for z/OS DBA / Precisely Connect CDC Engineer to support, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise data replication environments.

This role is approximately 80% Precisely Connect CDC and 20% traditional Db2 for z/OS DBA. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Precisely Connect CDC (formerly SQData) and IBM Db2 for z/OS in a production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support IBM Db2 for z/OS in enterprise production environments.
• Manage Precisely Connect CDC configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance, and maintenance.
• Configure and support Db2 for z/OS as a CDC source.
• Start, stop, monitor, and troubleshoot CDC components.
• Troubleshoot replication latency, missing transactions, failed replication, connectivity, capture, publisher, and apply/target issues.
• Manage CDC configuration for Db2 table additions, changes, reorganizations, and removals.
• Investigate schema/DDL changes, synchronization, and data consistency issues.
• Support CDC restart and recovery activities.
• Analyze Db2 logging, transaction processing, commit/rollback behavior, and CDC activity to identify root causes.
• Distinguish between source Db2, CDC capture, publisher/transport, and target/apply issues.
• Collaborate with DBA, mainframe, application, platform, and engineering teams.
• Support production incidents, including occasional on-call and weekend coverage.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on IBM Db2 for z/OS DBA experience in enterprise production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Precisely Connect CDC (formerly SQData).
• Strong understanding of Change Data Capture (CDC) architecture, including:
• Change capture
• Publisher
• CDC/transaction storage
• Replication/distribution
• Apply processing
• Source and target configuration
• Experience configuring and supporting Db2 for z/OS as a CDC source.
• Strong understanding of Db2 logging and transaction processing.
• Understanding of commit and rollback behavior.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex replication issues and data consistency problems.
• Understanding of CDC restart/recovery concepts.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently in a production environment.

Additional Requirements

• Must be available for occasional on-call and weekend support.
• Ability to work up to 40 hours per week.
• Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Ability to start ASAP is strongly preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on senior engineer with substantial production experience managing Precisely Connect CDC replication and the Db2 for z/OS expertise needed to troubleshoot issues across the entire replication pipeline.
