Job Description

Under the supervision of Shelter Deputy Director and Shelter Director, the Day Program Case Worker will interview, coordinate, and cooperate with other Salvation Army, government departments and private agency staffing to refer Day Program participants to needed services in an orderly and timely manner.

DUTIES

  • Coordinate the intake and interviews of Day Program participants upon entry to the program.
  • Be a resource specialist with knowledge of resources and ability to refer Day Program participants to specific, appropriate services including but not limited to housing, employment, mental and physical health services, drug and alcohol rehabilitation and recovery, Social Security, Disability, and other support services.
  • Any other duties relating to your job as requested by the Supervisors and/or Officers.
  • Interact professionally in all contact with the public and Salvation Army Officers and staff.
  • Have periodic interviews and updates with program participants to assist them in finding needed services to break out of homelessness.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Some experience with disadvantaged populations, whether through work, volunteering or being a member of a disadvantaged population is required.
  • Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing skills sufficient to perform the tasks required.
  • Trained or receiving training on informal mental health/substance abuse evaluation.
  • Experience in resource development for homeless populations.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple duties.
  • Possess maturity and confidentiality.
  • Education in social services/substance abuse helpful.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (Usually file boxes)
