Job Description

SALARY:
Starting at $16.00 per hour

APPLICATIONS ARE HELD ON FILE FOR 45 DAYS.


Under general supervision, the Day Camp Leader Driver is responsible for leading recreational activities for children ages 5–12 and safely transporting participants to and from essential locations. This role combines youth engagement with driving responsibilities and requires a strong commitment to safety, communication, and teamwork. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with a flexible weekday schedule.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead and supervise children ages 5–12 in recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
  • Safely operate a City vehicle to transport youth participants between program sites.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all campers.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup of daily camp activities.
  • Communicate effectively with children and staff to support a positive camp experience.
  • Administer basic first aid in accordance with department guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Attempt to resolve child behavior issues at the lowest level prior to escalation to management.


OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure clean and safe work areas in recreation facilities and grounds.
  • Report all suspected cases per training guidelines when required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate recreational activities.
  • Knowledge of basic safety and emergency procedures in youth programs.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and vehicle operation.
  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures
  • Skill in communicating effectively with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Skill in leading and supervising group activities in a camp setting.
  • Skill in safely operating a vehicle and following driving regulations.
  • Skill in resolving minor conflicts and promoting positive behavior.
  • Skill in adapting to changing situations and maintaining flexibility.
  • Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Skill with organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work within a set schedule.
  • Ability to supervise and engage youth in structured and unstructured activities.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and positive environment during transport and on-site.
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to operate a two-way radio.
  • Ability to operate a 10-passenger van.
  • Ability to follow schedules, routes, and instructions accurately.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general instructions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting,
  • standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.


Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • Must be age 18 or older.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator’s License, Class C.
  • Successful completion of the City of Arlington’s CPR and First Aid training required upon hire.
  • Complete child sexual abuse detection and prevention training upon hire.
