Position: Day Camp Counselor - Senior

Department: York. PA

Availability of Position: 6/22/26 - 8/14/26

Schedule: M-F, 8:00-3:30

Reporting Relationship: Day Camp Director/Corps Officer

Salary and Grade: $13.00 per hour

Responsibilities

To assist in the daily operations of the Salvation Army day camp program. Counselors are responsible for the addigned participants in their group at all times.

  • Supervise program participants, engage program participants in the scheduled program activities.
  • Participate and model how to actively participate in activities in a positive manner for participants while supervising the group in the scheduled activities.
  • Assist all Teachers and program leaders in supervising and monitoring student’s behaviors, as well as modeling and encouraging student engagement while the lessons are being taught.
  • Keep assigned program participants in sight and within ear shot at all times, and adhere to restroom break policies.
  • Assist in providing a safe, educational, enriching and fun environment for all program participants.
  • Monitor program participants’ behaviors to assure that they are adhering to program rules and regulations
  • at all times to ensure safety. Be consistent in the implementation of the provided behavior plan and policy.
  • Manage student behavior issues according to program policy and with a positive, encouraging, compassionate attitude.
  • Model appropriate behavior and responsible leadership to program participants at all times.
  • Maintain a strong and positive attitude.
  • Maintain open lines of communication between Supervisory Staff and Program Staff.
  • Ensure that the program rules and regulations are reviewed, distributed and followed at all times by self and participants.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with 2 years of work related experience
  • Valid PA State Driver's License with a good driving record with 3 years experience; Must be able to pass Salvation Army driving test
  • Salvation Army KeepSafe certificates
  • Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. In addition, completion of a Pennsylvania approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
  • Must understand and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
