Child Development and Care:

  • Assist theRegisteredEarly Childhood Educator (RECE)in

  • Facilitating the development andbehaviourof children by using a variety of observation and documentation techniques.

  • Facilitating cognitive, language, social, emotional,creative,and physical development of children and acceptance of diversity.

  • Developing,implementingand evaluating programs.

  • Implementing inclusion policyand evaluating age-appropriateprogram

  • Administeringmedication as directed

  • Implementing preventative health and safety measures

  • Implementing safe travelling and off-site practices while providing adequate supervision during these timesmaintainingdocumentation ofchild’sdevelopment

  • Establishing an environment to foster positivebehaviourin the program

  • Promoting a healthy lifestyle

  • Adapting programming and equipment to unique settings and situations

  • Advocating for children and families.

  • Reviewing safety-related issues.

  • Support the holistic development of all children.

  • Build meaningful relationships withthe children

  • Meet health,welfareand safety needs.

  • Accommodate for children’s allergies.

  • Providefirst-aidand CPR whenrequired

  • Follow safe toileting and diapering procedures.

  • Identifyand report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.

  • Actively supervise,guideandobservechildren at all times.

  • Promote healthy eating and proper food serving techniques

  • Accommodate for special nutritional requirements. Model and teach proper table manners.

  • Guide children’sbehaviourby using positive guidance techniques.

  • Facilitateappropriate language, conflict resolution, empathy, problem-solvingskillsand coping skills.

  • Use and promote active listening skills

  • Protect children from physical and emotional harm.

Equipment & Facilities:

  • Use developmentally appropriate equipment

  • Maintain equipment,materials,and furnishings

  • Maintain indoor and outdoor physical environment

  • Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of all areas used by children as per policy and guidelines

Record Keeping

  • AssistRegisteredEarly ChildhoodEducator(RECE)with required record keeping as assigned

Other

  • Attendance at parent meetings, staff meetings and other job-related activities will bepart and parcelof this job description and the agreed salary

  • Fulfill all other related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Internal:Staff members, volunteers, children in the program.

External:Parents and guardians of the kids, agencies.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Reports directly tothe Childcare Centre Supervisor

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • No formal material responsibility

  • Uses ormaintainsorganization assetsin accordance withestablished guidelines.

  • Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The performance of the job requiresfrequentlylifting/moving equipment and children, room set-up, moderate amount of teaching, leading etc

  • Use of thetablet or iPad for parent communication

  • Possibility of intervening in physical confrontations

  • Cleaning the facility and putting up wall displays.

  • The incumbent is required to lift up to 30 pounds with no assistance from others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of high school isrequired

  • 18 years of age or older (Canada Summer Job age requirement between the age of 18-30 years of age).

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Actfor the duration of the job and

  • be legally entitled to work in Canadain accordance withrelevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

  • This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job

  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening completed.

  • Updated Medical completed.

  • Mustmaintaina current, validStandardFirst Aid &Level CC.P.R. Certificate.

  • Complete allon-lineThe SalvationArmy coursesimmediatelyupon hiring.

  • ValidG-Driver’s Licenseis an asset

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Up to one year of related experience.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Abilityto provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, isrequired, including Child Check (ifappropriate)

  • Review of Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector isrequiredprocessedwithin 6 months of hire.

  • Clearance through internal Salvation Army child & youth abuseregistry

  • The Salvation Army abuse training&online health & safetymust be completedimmediatelyupon hiring.

  • Demonstrates an active interest and attitude suitable for working with large groups of children.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
