We are currently looking for Day Camp Counsellors to join our team of committed professionals. This Full-Time summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s Day Camp locations in Sudbury (Sudbruy YMCA, Kivi Park, Walden Cross Country) as well as Espanola and Elliot Lake.
Under the leadership of the Supervisor of Recreational Programming and Day Camps or Genereal Manager of Camping, the Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for program planning and delivery to ensure participant satisfaction. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is dynamic, able to work as part of a progressive team, enjoys working with children and who is capable of managing multiple tasks.
START DATE: June 26, 2026
LOCATION: Various (Sudbury YMCA, Kivi Park, Walden, Espanola, Elliot Lake)
RATE OF PAY: Starting at $17.60/hour
HOURS: up to 40 hours per week

Major Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver daily programs: group games, crafts, swimming, outside time, etc.
• Supervise, engage and participate with the program participants in group activities
• Apply behavior management training techniques with the program participants
• Communicate with all staff
• Ensure safety of all participants, property, staff and volunteers by established practices and procedures
• Maintain the inventory of required supplies and request more when needed
• Welcome all children to programs
• Represent the YMCA in a professional manner at all times
• Communication with parents on a daily basis
• Tracking daily attendance
• Post weekly programming schedule
• Build relationships with members and guests, and promote the YMCA as a charitable organization
Qualifications
• Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) preferred
• Experience working/leading group activities with children ages 3 to 12 years of age (i.e. babysitting)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
• Current and satisfactory Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
