Job Description

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a After School Program Coordinator for the New Orleans Area Command located in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Plans, coordinates, supervises, summer day camp education programs;
Supervise Program Aides; supervises and trains staff; plans and implements the program; trains volunteers; exercises authority in running program.
Prepares periodic statistical and progress reports; adheres to all procedures and policies of the Summer Day Camp program and The Salvation Army.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the equipment and its use. Knowledge of Salvation Army Youth Development Strategies. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to plan, organize, and manage.
Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and compliance with quality standards as well as the strategic plan of the organization. Ability to prepare accurate and complete statistical reports representing the activity and progress of programs.
Ability to instruct, supervise, and evaluate the work of tutorial staff leading programming activities and ability to ensure the continual development of youth’s character. Ability to build and maintain positive and professional relationships with staff, community, youth and parents as well as, school and community organizations participating in the programs.

Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree in Education, Youth Development or Related Field.
Experience in academia or working with Title I students and Families, experience working with youth.
Teaching experience Title I students, or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Drivers License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Must be able to physically and mentally cope with active youth from diverse backgrounds.
