POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position Coordinate the day-to-day operations of The St. Albert Salvation Army Summer Day Camp in consultation with the Corps Officer(s).
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Develop, lead and assist with implementation of program and set-up and clean-up daily
• Develop schedules for camp activities
• Develop schedules for staff for programming, breaks etc.
• Develop and maintain budget for camp
• Maintain quality childcare and always ensure safety of the campers
• Always participate and interact with the children.
• Work alongside camp staff and volunteers implementing camp activities
• Demonstrate healthy behaviors and interaction skills
• Participate in staff meetings.
• Keep the CFS and CMO informed of all pertinent day’s events and issues with staff, parents, or children.
• Debrief with the camp staff and volunteers at the end of each day
• Any other related duties.

Internal: Camp Leadership, Camp Team
External: Summer campers
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:
• This position reports directly to Community Ministries Officer
• This position oversees respective summer program attendees.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
• Use of various cleaning chemicals and tools (ex: broom, mop, vacuum, etc.)
• Possible use of various program equipment (ex: wall climb, low ropes, archery, canoes, BMX bikes, pottery tools, garden tools, etc.)
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• This position requires long hours of both indoor and outdoor activity.
• This position requires individuals to work in close proximity to others in a fast-paced and sometimes crowded environment, often outdoors. The work can be physically taxing and requires good mobility.
• This position requires individuals to maintain clean and tidy working area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
• Relevant post-secondary coursework or education, adequate training and/or relevant experience is preferred (ex: Education program completion or degree, Outdoor Survival Skills, Theological Studies, Administration, Program Coordination).
• Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
• Minimum 1 year experience working in a summer camping program setting (ex: Cabin Leader, Program Senior Staff).
• Prior experience working with children and planning activities
• Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values.
Skills and Capabilities:
• Work within the total camp program and cooperate with other staff members.
• Flexible and have a good disposition.
• Able to maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership.
• Ability to relate and connect well with children.
• Able to lead a team, organize staff, schedules etc
• A team player, able to work in harmony with fellow staff and volunteers.
• An awareness of the necessity of confidentiality in dealing with fellow staff, volunteers, and clients.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
• Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
• Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
• Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
• Background check consent
• A clear vulnerable sector screening
• A clean drivers abstract
• Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
This is for the Day Camp Coordinator for our summer day camp which we pay through the Summer Student grant program.
Compensation:
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
