Job Description

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.

Accountabilities

  • Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
  • Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use of data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Automation: Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
  • Teamwork: Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
  • Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as experience with Database Administrator, MongoDB, SRE, telemetry, ESAAS, PMM, Grafana, Prometheus, DevOps, performance tuning, Kubernetes, CI/CD tools as well as job-specific skillsets.

To be successful as a "Database Engineer", you should have experience with:

Basic/ Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience as a as a Senior level MongoDB Database Administrator or similar role, with a focus on setting up and managing large-scale MongoDB databases.
  • Strong understanding of MongoDB architecture, including replica sets, sharded clusters, and data distribution.
  • Proficiency in MongoDB database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with MongoDB backup and recovery strategies, including point-in-time recovery and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Knowledge of MongoDB security features and best practices for securing MongoDB databases.
  • Proven experience in executing database migration strategies at enterprise-scale.
  • Familiarity with MongoDB monitoring and diagnostic tools, such as MongoDB Cloud Manager, PMM, Ops Manager, or third-party solutions.
  • Experience with DevOps automation tools such as Code versioning (git), JIRA, Ansible, Containers and Kubernetes (OpenShift), database CI/CD tools and their implementation.
  • Experience in Observability tools (e.g., ESAAS, PMM, Grafana, Prometheus).
  • Experience in system configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible for database server configurations.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation/migration tasks.
  • Recognized as a MongoDB subject matter expert, serving as the technical escalation for complex database issues.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills with executives and cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive experience working with large, distributed, high-performance, high-availability databases with 24/7 uptime.
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication skills

Desirable skillsets/ good to have:

  • Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • AWS Certified Database – Specialty certification is a plus.
  • Experience of working on Data migration tools and software.
  • Experience in implementing MongoDB Container patterns on Kubernetes with the help of a MongoDB operator or a Helm charts.

This role will be based out of Pune.
