UCLA Health is seeking a highly experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator to support and optimize mission-critical database environments that power patient care, operational excellence, and innovation across one of the nation's leading academic health systems.

In this role, you will serve as a key technical expert responsible for the design, administration, security, performance, and availability of enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments across both Azure and on-premises platforms. You'll collaborate closely with application teams, project managers, vendors, and infrastructure partners to deliver scalable, highly available database solutions that support critical healthcare operations.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and administer enterprise SQL Server environments in Azure and on-premises.
  • Manage high-availability architectures, including SQL Server 2022 Clusters and AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
  • Perform database upgrades, migrations, patching, backup/recovery, performance tuning, and security management.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production databases, providing real-time operational support and issue resolution.
  • Partner with project teams and business stakeholders to assess requirements and implement best-practice database solutions.
  • Support development, testing, staging, and production environments while maintaining documentation and security compliance.
  • Participate in 24x7 production support coverage for critical healthcare systems.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Deep expertise with SQL Clustering, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, replication, backup/recovery, and database maintenance strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of database security, encryption technologies, and SSL certificate implementation.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and database automation.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Experience supporting healthcare systems and enterprise infrastructure environments is highly desirable.

This flexible hybrid role allows for a blend of remote and on-site work, requiring presence on-site as needed based on operational requirements. Please note, travel to the “home office” location is not reimbursed. Each employee will complete a FlexWork Agreement with their manager to outline expectations and ensure mutual understanding. These arrangements are periodically reviewed and may be adjusted or terminated as necessary.

Salary offers are based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full salary range for this position is $108,900 - $241,500 annually. The University anticipates offering a salary between the minimum and midpoint of this range.

As a condition of employment, the final candidate who accepts a conditional offer of employment will be required to disclose if they have been subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; received notice of any allegations or are currently the subject of any administrative or disciplinary proceedings involving misconduct; have left a position after receiving notice of allegations or while under investigation in an administrative or disciplinary proceeding involving misconduct; or have filed an appeal of a finding of misconduct with a previous employer.
