The Database Administrator II will support the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. This role provides database administration and data warehouse management services, supporting the planning, development, and monitoring of integrated database systems. The position involves data modeling, database performance tuning, and coordination with programmers and analysts to maintain data integrity across systems. The Database Administrator 2 also supports database security, disaster recovery procedures, and accessibility compliance for database-related user interfaces. Responsibilities Create and maintain production databases, entering codes and monitoring performance metrics such as record distribution and available memory. Direct programmers and analysts in making changes to the database management system, and review and correct programs as needed. Confer with team members to assess the impact of database changes on other systems and associated staff costs, and respond to user inquiries regarding database systems. Perform performance tuning to increase database processing efficiency. Support the planning, development, and monitoring of integrated database systems, ensuring new application designs are consistent with the database environment's structural parameters. Evaluate user requests for new data elements and systems, incorporate them into the shared data environment, and coordinate data use to maintain data integrity and control redundancy. Perform logical and physical data modeling, including designing relational database models and creating physical data models from logical data models. Execute database security and recovery procedures, including saving, retrieving, and recovering databases from hardware and software failures. Maintain the data dictionary, ensure uniformity of definitions and standards for its use, and monitor database performance to recommend efficiency improvements. Create test database environments, assist with database software installation, support benchmarking and threshold testing, and ensure database user interfaces comply with EIR Accessibility standards. Requirements Minimum Qualifications 5 years of experience with database management systems, including data warehouse management and decision support tools. 5 years of experience in the development, implementation, and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts. 5 years of experience with Business Objects and building data dictionaries. 5 years of experience using database access tools for application delivery. 5 years of experience with analysis, planning, and management reporting functions. 5 years of experience demonstrating well-developed oral and written communication skills. 5 years of experience demonstrating strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. 5 years of experience applying an extremely high level of analytical ability to unusual and highly difficult problems. 5 years of experience with benchmarking processes and techniques. 5 years of experience working effectively with others, motivating employees, and eliciting work output. 5 years of experience with data warehousing, data population, and data modeling techniques for target structures such as star schemas, snowflake schemas, and highly normalized data models. 5 years of experience with GUI-based ETL tools such as Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage, or similar tools. 5 years of implementation experience with enterprise-class databases such as Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, or similar technologies. 5 years of implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools such as Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy, or similar tools. 5 years of experience with the data warehouse implementation process, from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and transformation, data loading, SQL, end-user tools, and database and SQL performance. 5 years of experience demonstrating excellent analytical, problem-solving, teamwork, and oral and written communication skills. 5 years of experience working successfully with technical and non-technical groups while managing multiple responsibilities. Preferred Qualifications 5 years of Oracle Database experience. 5 years of experience creating Power BI reports. Additional Requirements Candidates must reside in Texas and be located within a 50-mile radius of the Austin area ; candidates currently out of state who plan to relocate will not be considered. Candidates may be subject to criminal background checks as authorized by Texas law. Candidates may be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, subject to pre-approval.
