Responsibilities

We are seeking a proactive Database Reliability Engineer to join our team in Singapore. You will be responsible for the stability, performance, security, and scalability of our cloud and on-premise database environments. You will drive reliability through automation and collaborate closely with our global engineering teams to ensure business continuity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Database Operations: Manage and maintain the health of cloud-based (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL) and on-premise databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, SQL Server).
2. Reliability & Disaster Recovery: Design and execute backup strategies and regular recovery drills (RPO/RTO) to ensure high data integrity.
3. Architecture Optimization: Implement high-availability solutions, including cluster management, read-write splitting, and seamless failover mechanisms.
4. Data Security & Governance: Implement database security measures such as RBAC, auditing, encryption, and data masking, ensuring full compliance with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and internal security policies.
5. Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Manage database resources using Terraform and promote automation for routine maintenance and deployments.
6. Performance Engineering: Drive capacity planning, index design, SQL optimization, and performance tuning to support high-traffic business systems.
7. Collaboration: Participate in cross-functional collaboration with SRE, Security, and Development teams. Maintain operational excellence through strict change management and incident response processes.

Qualifications

1. Database Expertise: Proficiency in at least one major RDBMS (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and Redis, with solid experience in performance tuning (execution plans, transaction/lock analysis) and high-availability architectures (e.g., Patroni, Orchestrator).
2. Cloud Operations: Proven experience managing production databases on AWS (RDS/Aurora) or GCP (Cloud SQL), including monitoring, elastic scaling, and cloud migration.
3. Automation & IaC: Strong proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and scripting (Python/Shell) to automate routine operational tasks and toolchain development.
4. Reliability & Observability: Skilled in using monitoring stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) to track SLOs/SLIs, with a proven ability to conduct blameless post-mortems and drive system stability.
5. Global Collaboration: Excellent English communication skills to work effectively with distributed global teams, paired with a disciplined operational mindset and willingness to participate in on-call rotations.
