Examples of duties

Responsible for control of the City's computerized information resource through development and implementation of security and access procedures and development of standards for design and documentation of information systems. Performs other job-related duties as required. TYPICAL TASKS: Maintains data security by controlling who may access the data. Prepares directories of security, users, and structures and controls distribution of the directories. Determines requirements for backup and recovery of information structures to insure data integrity. Controls creation, deletion or recognition of logical file procedures. Provides new access permissions and determines if files are consistent with interfaces to existing data structures. Monitors data storage space utilization and implements necessary action to improve space utilization. Coordinates vendor training of Data Center employees in file design techniques, program coding techniques and security characterization. Provides technical guidance in logical and physical structures and assists in implementation. Develops standards associated with control of data base.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field from an accredited college, university, or vocational school required. Two years of full-time paid experience supporting users in a Midrange IBM environment, NT environment, or other Networking environment required. (Substitution: Two years any equivalent combination of education, training and experience may substitute for each year of college education lacking.) Must have a knowledge/understanding of Dumb Terminals, CAT 5, Twinax Cabling, Modems, and Installing/Removing hardware and software. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. Valid State of Ohio Driver's License required.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage MS SQL and Oracle ecosystems (on-prem and cloud) ensuring optimal performance, resiliency, redundancy, security and data integrity.
  • Responsible for the entire lifecycle of data: development, integration, reporting and management.
  • Lead audits and manage database environment licensing and related contracts, ensuring optimal utilization and alignment with NIST 800 Cybersecurity, Risk Management, Database Monitoring, Compliance and Data Governance Frameworks.
  • Lead database environment IR, to include disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
  • Provide oversight in database driven application development and BI solution deployment.
  • Assist in database resource development
  • Perform other technical and administrative duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills & Tools

  • Microsoft database certifications are required (e.g., MCSE, or Azure / SQL Server certifications
  • Proficiency in on-premises MS SQL Server administration, configuration, performance tuning, and backup/recovery strategies, including Always on Availability Groups.
  • Expert use of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), including indexing, query optimization, and system troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in SSIS for data migration and multi-source data integration, and SSRS for designing and deploying enterprise-level reports.
  • Strong command of SQL development and scripting, including T-SQL, stored procedures, functions, advanced joins, and all command types (DDL, DML, DQL, DCL, and TCL).
  • Comprehensive understanding of database security, access control, compliance protocols, and proficiency with database monitoring tools and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience in PowerShell scripting for automation of administrative tasks.
  • Proficiency with SFTP and FTP, including Ip switch Secure FTP for secure file transfers.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio for debugging and developing SQL-related applications.
  • Proficiency in managing Azure SQL Database, including provisioning, configuring, optimizing, and maintaining cloud databases.
  • Knowledge of Power Automate for automating workflows and processes, including integration with databases.
  • Experience with setting up Azure Backup and Geo-replication to ensure cloud data availability.
  • Knowledge of Azure security best practices for databases, including integration, firewalls, and encryption.
