Data Steward

The Data Capabilities team drives business value and efficiency through data governance, reporting and information management services at Veikkaus.

As a Data Steward, you play a crucial role in implementing and developing data governance within your area of responsibility. You ensure that data is trustworthy, well‑managed and supports effective decision‑making, enabling the achievement of key objectives and increasing the value of data assets in terms of quality, integrity and compliance. You collaborate closely with business and technical stakeholders to define standards, improve data experiences, resolve issues and strengthen our data culture.

Main Responsibilities:

• Data governance & quality: Define, implement and maintain policies and standards. Define, monitor and report on data quality, ensuring data is consistent and reliable across systems. Collaborate with stakeholders in selected domains to understand data requirements, resolve day-to-day issues and promote data literacy.
• Data project & initiative support: Guide the activities of responsible stakeholders, ensuring governance and quality requirements in development projects.
• Metadata & data catalog management: Develop and maintain data catalog, ensuring that data assets are well-documented, discoverable and accessible to authorized users. Manage data lifecycle in cooperation with the technical team.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and internal policies.
• Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance data management processes, tools and documentation. Champion a culture of data responsibility and stewardship throughout the organization and across domains.

You will thrive in this position if you have:

• A proactive, solution‑oriented, detail‑driven and customer centric approach
• Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data models, data quality principles and information architecture
• At least 5 years of experience in data management or data governance, including demonstrated ability to drive complex, cross-functional data initiatives
• Experience with data cataloging, metadata management or data lineage tools
• Technical skills (i.e., SQL) to analyze data, validate and understand data structures
• Excellent communication skills, ability to collaborate with both business and technical professionals, ability to coach data analysts and junior data professionals
• Relevant education and/or certifications in data or information management
• Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Atlan)
• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Azure, AWS)
• Knowledge of data privacy regulations and compliance processes
• Experience with data literacy or data enablement programs

The position is located at Veikkaus’ headquarters in Pohjois-Haaga, Helsinki. We work flexibly in a hybrid model three days a week at the office.
