Job Description

More than 3 billion people in over 180 countries use WhatsApp to stay in touch with friends and family, anytime and anywhere. In Brazil, it is also where a great deal of everyday life gets done — people message businesses, coordinate their families, and increasingly send money as easily as they send a message.

We are building a new team to take WhatsApp further in that direction. The newly established WhatsApp Services team is focused on making WhatsApp more useful for more of what people already use it for, and on building what comes next.

This Data Science leader for Brazil will oversee the newly established WhatsApp Services team, treated as a zero-to-one effort so we can move fast, take risks, and build as we go. We are looking for a hands-on leader who can roll up their sleeves and work as an individual contributor or org leader, based on the needs of the team.

As a data science leader at WhatsApp, you will use your start-up mindset and your full range of analytical leadership skills to produce well-designed, user-focused products. You’ll be expected to push the boundaries of what’s possible in a mobile app, while sharing in our commitment to quality and attention to detail. This is a role for someone who can hold both the ceiling and the floor: sets an ambitious long-term technical vision for what WhatsApp can become.

  • Contribute to the long-term technical vision and strategy for analytics methods and metrics to enhance WhatsApp

  • Develop an understanding of complex, large-scale AI development, experimentation, and measurement systems, as well as broader industry challenges, to identify current and future risks and opportunities
  • Inspire and lead a team of data scientists and managers across multiple teams in close collaboration with other Data Science Directors and Managers

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 10+ years of experience in analytics and data science, leading analytics work in IC capacity, working collaboratively with Engineering and cross-functional partners, and guiding data-influenced product planning, prioritization and strategy development
  • Experience working effectively with multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams, including Engineering, PM/TPM, Analytics and Finance
  • Experience framing analytical problems and communicating findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders Masters or Ph.D. Degree in a quantitative field
  • Experience in adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Experience with predictive modeling, machine learning, and experimentation/causal inference methods
