Works under specific direction to provide analysis and develops algorithms and software for clinical and/or basic research problems. Impacts data acquisition, management, and analysis in basic, translational, and clinical research, including clinical trials.
The Data Scientist I position analyzes & develops formalisms, algorithms, & software for biomedical research applications. They will also develop & maintain software tools & infrastructure to resolve specific problems and assist in the development, testing, & revision of programs in a team with diverse bioinformatics expertise.
• Works with clinical informatics teams to leverage AI for the extraction and calculation of common data elements from EMR data
• Performs data management tasks based on key understanding of project elements
• Develop and maintain clear documentation, data dictionaries, and reproducible code to support reuse, auditing, and longitudinal projects
• Work requires ability to synthesize project requirements and incorporate them into data management and EMR data extraction tasks
• Work requires ability to manage multiple concurrent requests, communicate timelines and trade‑offs, and collaborate effectively with clinicians, coordinators, and informatics partners

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
Preferred
• 2 years of post-graduation experience in data analysis for a Bachelor's degree or 1 year post-graduation experience in data analysis for a Master's degree
• Working knowledge of REDCap and either SAS or R
• Demonstrated ability to translate clinical research questions into structured datasets and analytic specifications, with attention to clinical definitions and data provenance
• Experience working with EMR‑derived data (e.g., ICD codes, flowsheets, lab data, problem lists, clinical notes), including assessment of data completeness, bias, and validity
• Experience designing and maintaining relational datasets or research databases to support multi‑project, multi‑investigator use
