How You’ll Make an Impact

We build the AI that talks to our customers, at the scale of a national consumer portfolio: real conversations, in production, every day. As a Data Scientist on the Data Science team you own the harder half of that. You decide what the agents should be optimized for, you design the experiment that grades a change, and you are the person who can say with evidence whether we got better.

The scope is deliberately broad: modeling, experimentation, unit economics, and the conversation with the business, in one seat. Decisions you make land on live traffic within the week, and you see the result in the numbers rather than in a slide. It suits someone strong technically who is not content to stop at the model, and who wants the judgment side of data science, not just the tooling.

What You’ll Do

Objective and Agent Logic

• Own the objective the conversational stack is optimized against, and keep it tied to a business number rather than a proxy.
• Own the dialogue and decisioning logic behind what the agent says and does, and be able to tell which layer a behavior came from.

Quality, Cost and Speed

• Hold quality, cost per conversation and speed together, set the thresholds the team works to, and defend the trade-off to the business.
• Own how agent quality is measured, and the monitoring that catches a regression before a customer does.

Evidence and Judgment

• Design and read the experiments behind every change: size them before they run, separate the agent effect from mix and seasonality, and say plainly when a movement is not attributable.
• Benchmark new AI models and methods on our own traffic before adopting them, and be willing to say a shiny thing is not worth the migration.
• Turn results into decisions with senior management, and mentor junior members on method and rigor.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Background

• Postgraduate degree (Masters or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or equivalent experience preferred.
• 4 to 6 years of professional experience applying statistical and machine learning solutions to business problems.
• Strong hands-on experience in machine learning, statistics, and experimentation, including experiment design and causal measurement on observational data.
• Strong Python and SQL, and comfort working directly on large datasets without waiting for a curated table.
• Hands-on experience with LLM-based systems, prompt iteration, and the evaluation of generated output is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with bank-related products such as unsecured personal loans and credit cards is preferred.
• Experience with big data processing is a plus.
• Startup or tech background is a strong plus.

• You use AI tools as part of your method — precise prompts, critical reading of what comes back, and the instinct to check an output against evidence before you act on it.
• You don't wait for a spec to test an idea. You form the hypothesis, run it, and bring the result to the table.
• You move between modeling, product, and the business conversation without needing a handoff, and you can hold a room of non-technical stakeholders.
• You treat a failed experiment as information and keep raising your own bar on method, without being told to

Skills & Competencies

• Domain Expert — Teaches method and rigor to others; edge cases are covered and documented rather than carried in one person's head.
• Product Architect — Prototypes working agentic systems, reads the metrics they produce, and iterates before anyone has to ask.
• AI Engineer/Architect — Ships end-to-end ML and agent systems, owning the path from data pipeline to production behavior.
• AI Operator — Keeps agents performing above quality threshold at target cost, catching drift before it reaches customers.
• Strong English communication skills (spoken and written — professional fluency required).
• High adaptability and comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
