At Telespazio Germany, we believe that artificial intelligence (AI) is a future cornerstone of modern spacecraft operations. Join us in supporting our customers on their journey to enhance spacecraft operations efficiency by integrating AI applications into their workflows, e.g. for automation of decision-making assistance. We are seeking a skilled AI Software Engineer – optimally with experience in the space industry.

Responsibilities/Duties

Like many of our clients, we see the adoption of artificial intelligence as an important enabler for future space missions and applications. To support our clients with these ambitions we are seeking a Data Scientist / AI Software Engineer to complement our international team.

As an AI Software Engineer for Telespazio Germany, you will be at the forefront of designing, implementing, and driving the transfer-to-operation of cutting-edge AI solutions for our customers, like ESA. Your role will bridge the gap between application development and operations, collaborating closely with our talented software developers and spacecraft operators. As part of an agile team you will be involved in projects throughout the development lifecycle from the analysis of the user needs, design of the system to its implementation and demonstration of the use cases.

In the course of the project, you will be expected to coordinate with other agile activities to manage dependencies and ensure that the project delivers to the satisfaction of the users. In the later stages of the project there may be opportunity to implement your own use case on the delivered platform and support the future growth of Telespazio and our clients in developing these applications.

Qualifications/Experience

• University degree / PhD in Computer Engineering, Data Science or similar discipline

Essential Skills

The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills:

• A background in modern data science and software development
• Proficiency in coding and scripting languages such as Python, C++, or Java
• Familiarity with SW development methodologies (e.g.DevOps, MLOps) and tools (e.g. containerization tools such as, Docker, Kubernetes);

• Familiarity with one or more machine learning toolsets, e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch
• Ability to work independently in a client-facing role
• Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, clients and partners
• Proficiency in English, both in speech and writing

Desirable Skills

Additional desirable skills are:

• Experience working within the Space Industry;
• Knowledge of current operational mission data management systems
• Knowledge of ESOC SDE, DevOps approach and operational environment
