Job Description

As a Geological and Geospatial Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in collecting, processing, analyzing, and interpreting geological and geospatial data to support our research and exploration efforts. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of geologists, geophysicists, engineers, and environmental scientists to uncover patterns, trends, and relationships within complex geological datasets and spatial information.

Responsibilities

1. Data Acquisition and Collection: Collect and curate geological data from various sources, including field surveys, remote sensing imagery, geological maps, borehole data, and seismic records, ensuring data quality and consistency.
2. Geospatial Analysis: Apply geospatial analysis techniques, including geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial statistics, and spatial modeling, to analyze and visualize geological features, terrain characteristics, and environmental variables.
3. Geological Modeling: Develop geological models and interpretations based on integrated analysis of geological data and geospatial information, including lithological mapping, structural analysis, stratigraphic correlation, and geomorphological analysis.
4. Data Integration and Fusion: Integrate geological data with other datasets, such as geophysical data, geochemical data, and environmental data, to enhance understanding of subsurface geology, mineral resources, and geological hazards.
5. Machine Learning and Data Mining: Apply machine learning algorithms and data mining techniques to identify patterns, anomalies, and predictive relationships within geological datasets, enabling predictive modeling and decision support.
6. Visualization and Communication: Visualize and communicate geological findings and insights through maps, charts, and reports, effectively conveying complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, including scientists, engineers, and decision-makers.
7. Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in geological and geospatial analysis, and contribute to research projects, publications, and conferences to advance the field of geosciences.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field, with a focus on geological data analysis and geospatial techniques.
• Proven experience 3 years in geological and geospatial analysis, including proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing tools (e.g., ENVI, Erdas Imagine), and geostatistical analysis software (e.g., Surfer, GeoDa).
• Strong background in geological concepts and methodologies, with expertise in geological mapping, structural geology, sedimentology, or mineralogy.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
