Data Scientist position – Immuno-Oncology R&D

The Merck Healthcare R&D team in Yavne is seeking a Data Scientist to join our research efforts in immuno-oncology. This role is dedicated to translating complex biological and clinical data into actionable insights that drive novel therapeutic development. You will work at the intersection of data science and spatial biology, developing advanced machine learning models to translate complex biological datasets into actionable insights for drug development. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will collaborate closely with biologists to integrate data-driven solutions into the heart of our R&D processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Development: Design and implement advanced ML/DL models to identify predictive biological patterns in multiplex stainings of patient tumor samples and associated clinical data.
  • High-Dimensional Discovery: Apply statistical modeling, dimensionality reduction, and clustering techniques to extract insights from spatial biological datasets.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal biological research teams and external academic stakeholders to translate technical findings into therapeutic insights.
  • End-to-End Research: Lead research projects independently, managing the full lifecycle from initial data collection and exploration to final model deployment and presentation.
  • Communication: Present complex technical concepts and data-driven insights to diverse audiences within a matrix organization environment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: M.Sc. or PhD in Software and Information Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a strong focus on Machine Learning and Big Data.
  • Core Technical Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of $ML/DL$ frameworks including PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, Pandas, and NumPy
  • Programming: Professional proficiency in Python and R for comprehensive data analysis and model development.
  • Analytical Depth: Strong background in statistical modeling, dimensionality reduction, and classification algorithms.
  • Versatility: Ability to apply machine learning expertise across both tabular clinical datasets and imaging-derived features
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal, team-working, and communication skills, with the motivation to establish new methodologies.
