When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Join Solar Turbines!

At Solar Turbines, a Caterpillar company, we combine deep engineering expertise with advanced data and AI capabilities to solve complex, real‑world problems at industrial scale.
As a Data Scientist / ML / AI Engineer, you will be part of a collaborative, innovation‑driven environment where data, software, and domain knowledge come together to deliver impactful AI‑powered solutions. You will work alongside experienced engineers, architects, and product leaders to design, prototype, and deploy intelligent systems that support critical business and operational decisions.

What will be your tasks?

As a Data Scientist, you will be a member of an AI team working on the design and delivery of data‑driven and Generative AI solutions. You will contribute to end‑to‑end development activities while learning from experienced engineers and collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development, testing, and deployment of data science, machine learning, and Generative AI solutions
  • Supporting the analysis of business and technical problems and translating them into data‑driven or AI‑based approaches
  • Participating in the design and implementation of AI prototypes and production‑ready solutions, including LLM‑based use cases
  • Preparing, exploring, and transforming data to support model development and evaluation
  • Collaborating with software engineering teams to integrate AI components into enterprise applications and platforms
  • Applying best engineering and coding practices when developing models, pipelines, and supporting services
  • Assisting with model evaluation, validation, and performance monitoring
  • Troubleshooting issues in existing solutions and contributing to continuous improvements
  • Actively participating in Agile ceremonies and team collaboration (planning, reviews, retrospectives)
  • Learning and applying responsible AI principles, data privacy, and ethical guidelines in daily work

This role offers a strong opportunity to grow technical skills, gain hands‑on experience with modern AI technologies, and contribute to impactful solutions used in real industrial environments.

Who are we looking for?

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in software engineering, data science, machine learning, or a related technical role
  • Practical experience with Python and common data science or machine learning libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar)
  • Basic understanding of machine learning concepts, model training, evaluation, and data preparation
  • Initial hands‑on experience or strong interest in Generative AI, including Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, or Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts
  • Experience working with data pipelines, APIs, or integrating models into applications is an advantage
  • Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including version control (Git), code reviews, and testing
  • Basic knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or similar) and CI/CD concepts is a plus
  • Understanding of Agile / Scrum development methodology
  • You communicate in Slovak and English as well.

Top candidates will also have:

  • Ability to work as an individual contributor within a collaborative AI team while contributing to shared goals
  • Curiosity and motivation to learn modern AI technologies, especially Generative AI, LLMs, and related tooling
  • Basic experience diagnosing and troubleshooting issues in data pipelines, models, or AI‑enabled applications
  • Willingness to collaborate closely with software engineers, architects, and product stakeholders
  • Understanding of how AI solutions move from prototype to production, even at an introductory level
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly, ask questions, and accept feedback during code reviews and design discussions
  • Awareness of responsible AI principles, including data privacy, ethics, and model limitations
  • Proactive mindset, adaptability, and openness to working in a complex industrial environment
  • Passion for technology and continuous learning, with interest in emerging AI trends and best practices
