Job Description

Data Scientist

Information Technology Department

Data Scientists are quantitative experts who design, build, and maintain data science and machine learning solutions. Data Scientists explore, analyze, and model business data to uncover patterns, predict outcomes, and drive strategic decision-making. They use statistical analysis, machine learning, and advanced modeling techniques to generate insights and develop predictive or prescriptive solutions. Data Scientists leverage a variety of tools, programming languages, and frameworks to deliver data-driven intelligence that supports operational and business goals.

Outline of Duties:

  • Collaborate with SIA management and business users to define analytical objectives, modeling goals, and data science project requirements
  • Work with core system developers to locate and understand source data needed for modeling and advanced analysis
  • Partner with data analytics developers to develop data pipelines, models, and ontologies to support statistical and machine learning models using tools such as Python, SQL, and other programming languages as needed
  • Build, train, test, and validate predictive and prescriptive models using sound statistical methods and machine learning techniques, ensuring reproducibility and accuracy
  • Develop and maintain model outputs, data visualizations, and dashboards to communicate insights and model performance clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams on resource allocation and configuration, monitor resource consumption for performance and cost
  • Monitor, retrain, and optimize models to maintain performance, adapt to data drift, and ensure alignment with evolving business needs
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities in analytical processes, model development standards, and data science practices across the organization
  • Deliver ad hoc analyses and research to answer business questions, identify new opportunities, or test hypotheses
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Informatics, Data Analytics, or related field or equivalent experience
  • Self-motivated - high initiative
  • Ability to manage projects from start to finish
  • Ability to use data to drive activity, productivity, and cost
  • Significant knowledge of system software/hardware technology
  • Foundational knowledge of statistics, data analysis, and machine learning concepts

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Data Science or related field or equivalent experience
