Data Reporting Intern, Summer 2027
The San Francisco Chronicle is looking for a summer intern to join our Data team, which develops on quick-turn, graphics-focused stories, interactive projects, and data-driven deep dives. This intern will receive training and mentoring, but will also hit the ground running, covering a variety of stories from the office and in the field. There will be opportunities to pursue projects aimed at engaging our audience and to work closely with reporting teams throughout the newsroom.
The successful candidate will work quickly but responsibly on data stories that help readers understand and explore their communities through unique reporting, data analysis, and interactive graphics creation. This paid 12-week internship typically lasts from June to August. Hourly rate: $20.50.
This position will be full-time, based in the Bay Area for summer 2026. Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required as news warrants. All college students, including community college students or students who will have recently completed their associate's or bachelor's degree, are encouraged to apply.
