OVERVIEW:

Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and interpreting data related to the Bank’s Commercial Loan Portfolio and Credit Risk Rating Framework. Performs advanced quantitative analysis, data exploration, and statistical techniques to identify trends, assess portfolio risk, monitor exposure limits, and produce risk identification reporting. Provides data-driven insights that support risk management, strategic decision-making, and the ongoing effectiveness of the Bank’s credit risk rating processes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Contribute to the effective management of commercial credit risk by supporting the Risk Rating Framework through analytical practices, adherence to regulatory guidance, and understanding of M&T Credit Culture.
• Assist with the review of the Probability of Default and Loss Given Default Masterscales and the use of scorecards to assign credit risk ratings. Recommend improvements to Credit Risk Management.
• Support the PD and LGD Masterscales using large commercial datasets and statistical analysis in Statistical Analysis System (SAS), Python, or similar tools to compare estimates to historical performance and communicate analytical results to Bank-wide stakeholders.
• Compile, combine, profile, and analyze data from multiple sources to identify trends, monitor portfolio performance, explain variances, and support risk identification reporting.
• Collaborate with Model Risk Management to ensure compliance with model governance requirements, including documentation updates, performance monitoring, and validation support for department-owned models.
• Provide financial analysis and data support to other groups and departments across the Bank as required.
• Develop clear visualizations and reporting to explain analytical findings, portfolio trends, and risk-related insights.
• Provide guidance to junior analysts.
• Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators, as applicable.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years related experience
• Familiarity with a common programming language
• Experience working in large databases

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

• 4 or more years related work experience in data analysis
• Intermediate skills in programming languages such as SQL, SAS, Python, Julia or Java
• Experience working with a statistical analysis software package
• Experience with one or more cloud databases.
• Experience working within an agile environment

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $85,800.00 - $143,000.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
