Under the direction of the Data Protection Manager, the Data Protection Lead will support the SPEN Data Protection Team in delivering an effective and proactive data protection programme.
The role is central to ensuring the protection of SPEN’s information assets across all areas of the business, including where the handling and processing of personal data is undertaken bythird‑partysuppliers.
Whatyou’llbe doing
In this role, you will advise on data protection matters, including supporting contract negotiations and reviewing relevant business and legal documentation, while ensuring SPEN meets its Article 30 GDPR obligations throughaccurateRecords of Processing Activities.
You will carry outinitialData Protection Impact Assessments, support Legitimate Interest Assessments whererequired, and recommend proportionaterisk‑mitigationactions with guidance from the Data Protection Manager.
In post you willalso support data protection training and awareness activity,monitordata protection KPIs and escalate issues to the Data Protection Officer asappropriate
Acting as a point of contact for data subject rights, you will work collaboratively across SPEN to support data incident investigations, contributing toroot‑causeanalysis and the completion ofappropriate mitigatingactions.
Whatyou’llbring
You will be a confident data protection professional, able to work autonomously while recognising when escalation isrequired You will have experience advising on data protection aspects of contracts and business or legal documentation, along with the ability to interpret regulatory requirements and apply them effectively in a practical business context.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, together with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both locally and globally. You will be comfortable resolving complex issues, influencingoutcomesand driving positive change.
You will bring a sound understanding of IT processes, informationsecurityand technology risk, supported by strong analytical and investigatory skills andin‑depthtechnical knowledge of data protection. Experience in risk management, mitigation and remediation is essential, alongside a proventrack recordof advising diverse stakeholders on data protection matters.
Anindustry‑recogniseddata protection qualification is desirable, as is experience within the energy or utilities sector. Legal qualifications or legal training would beadvantageousbut are not essential.
