Job Description

Data Processing Specialist

At Airpelago, we are pioneering the inspection of power grids with drones. We combine modern drone technology, proprietary software, and expertise in drone regulations to help grid owners inspect and get insights about their assets, which our society is dependent on. As we continue to scale, we are looking for a LiDAR Processing Specialist to build and maintain the processing and quality workflows behind our customer deliveries, and to help us integrate new drones and sensors into our system.

Your mission

You will focus on our LiDAR processes: enabling the integration of new drones and sensors by building the data flows they require. Beyond LiDAR, you will support the Global Data Processing team's core operations, from maintaining the quality workflows our deliveries depend on to managing the large-scale data that enables our autonomous flights.

Responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of LiDAR processing and QA workflows.
  • Processing of incoming customer data.
  • Post-processing and QA of captured data.
  • Evaluating and integrating new sensors and processing tools.
  • Project management of development activities.
  • End-to-end responsibility of customer deliverables provided by the Global Data Processing team.

What we're looking for

  • Experience processing LiDAR data from multiple sensor manufacturers.
  • Experience developing LiDAR processing workflows, with the ability to design new workflows from scratch, not just maintain existing ones.
  • Ability to methodically troubleshoot the LiDAR processing pipeline end-to-end (GNSS → IMU → trajectory → point cloud), and increase the quality of customer deliveries.
  • Knowledge of LiDAR post-processing methods such as strip alignment and classification.
  • Production-quality scripting and software skills for data processing workflows, such as PDAL/laspy, CRS transformations, and QGIS.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Minimum of 5 years of higher education, preferably an MSc.

Personality traits

  • Curious: enjoys testing and evaluating new tools and technology.
  • Self-driven: comfortable taking end-to-end ownership.
  • Communicative: keeps all stakeholders informed and ensures clear, timely communication of deliverables.
  • Collaborative: works well with internal and external teams to facilitate smooth delivery.
  • Quick learner: quickly learns and adapts to new tools and software used for data processing.

Why join Airpelago?

You will play a central role in transforming an industry with automated aerial data. We are currently on an exciting growth journey, and you will become part of a driven, passionate, and highly skilled team. We believe in achieving great things while having fun along the way - including an annual winter office abroad and recurring company gatherings. We offer a dynamic, high-trust environment where our technical innovations directly impact real-world operations and commercial success.
