Job Description

Job Title: Data Insights Developer

  • HSBC are seeking a Data Insights Developer within the CTO DAO Team to support HSBC’s digital and data-driven ambitions. This role will need to demonstrate hybrid Data Scientist capabilities alongside the ability to design, develop and deliver applications that provide business insights.
  • GCIO & GCOO Data is a global team within CTO Data that delivers data governance, data management, MI / reporting and analytics for key Businesses and Group Organizational infrastructure functions including Technology, Operations, Procurement and Real Estate Services.

In this role, you will:

Principal accountabilities and responsibilities:

Data Analysis and Engineering

  • Develop and optimise data models to support analytical requirements.
  • Conduct ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data efficiently into Google BigQuery.
  • Utilise Pandas for data manipulation, ensuring cleanliness and reliability of datasets.
  • Create efficient queries to retrieve and analyse relevant data, driving insights and recommendations for stakeholders.

Full Stack Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain web applications using Python and modern web frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask).
  • Implement responsive designs with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks.
  • Utilise Docker and Kubernetes for containerisation and orchestration, ensuring scalable deployment.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure and services; familiar with DevOps practices and deployment.
  • Understanding of security best practices in web environments, especially within GCP and other cloud-based settings.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to articulate clear business requirements, applying critical thinking to challenge where appropriate.
  • Manage end to end project deliveries within timelines, managing risks / issues where necessary.
  • Support user adoption and on boarding with hands on training and documentation.

Data Visualisation and Storytelling

  • Craft compelling data visualisations that are aligned to business objectives and effectively communicate insights.
  • Apply knowledge of colour theory and usability principles to enhance the effectiveness of visualisations.
  • Engage in data storytelling to contextualise visual findings, helping stakeholders quickly understand actionable insights.

To be successful you will:

Skills/experience required:

  • Strong understanding of data modelling concepts and analytical techniques; familiarity with scenario modelling or analytics would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a Full Stack development or similar hybrid role, combining software development, data analysis and visualisation.
  • Proficiency in data manipulation tools, particularly Pandas, and experience with cloud data platforms like Google BigQuery.
  • Proven technical skills in Python, DevOps practices, and web technologies, including CSS, JavaScript, and popular web frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for application deployment.
  • Excellent data visualisation skills, ideally with a portfolio showcasing the ability to tell compelling stories through data.
  • Understanding of Agile ways of working, including experience with JIRA and Confluence.
  • Understanding of banking / financial services industry.
  • Experience in business analysis, solution design, change & implementation or consulting activities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.

  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills, including with senior and non-technical stakeholders, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, with the ability to challenge or push back on unclear requirements.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise work and respond to fast changing, complex and often ambiguous demands.
  • Ability to work autonomously, with end-to¬-end ownership of specific deliverables.
