Location:On-site in either Omaha, NE, or Irving, TX.

Lead Tenaska’s Data Governance function and play a pivotal role in shaping how data drives decisions and business outcomes across the organization. In this role, you will champion and evolve our governance framework, strengthen data quality and cataloging, and enable trusted, accessible, and well-managed data enterprise-wide. By partnering closely with business and technology leaders, you will translate governance from concept into action—fostering adoption, accountability, and measurable business impact.

This is a highly visible opportunity for an experienced data governance leader to build and scale a critical enterprise capability. You’ll bring both strategic vision and hands-on execution, empower business-led data ownership, and help unlock the full value of Tenaska’s data.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead the Data Governance practice, owning the enterprise governance framework and orchestrating governance operations and services, ensuring consistent execution.
  • Drive adoption of data ownership and stewardship across business units, ensuring clear accountability at the data domain level.
  • Oversee the data cataloging capability, enabling discoverability, certification, and effective use of data assets and data products.
  • Establish and scale Data Quality Management practices, including definition of critical data elements, quality rules, monitoring and issue resolution.
  • Ensure protection and security of critical data assets by overseeing compliance with data classification and data retention policies, partnering with Data Owners, Security, Legal and Compliance and Records Management.
  • Partner with business and technology leaders to align governance priorities with strategic initiatives, including AI readiness.
  • Lead governance forums and working groups to facilitate decision-making, issue resolution, and policy adoption.
  • Enable and support a data marketplace approach, ensuring trusted data is accessible to the right users at the right time.
  • Develop and deliver data literacy training for Data Owners, Data Stewards and end users.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data governance professionals, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Education/Experience/Skills

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems, Data Analytics/Science, or related business degree.
  • Proven experience in data governance, data management or related field with hands-on involvement in data cataloging and data quality management.
  • Strong ability to collaborate across business and technology teams, with demonstrated experience driving data ownership, stewardship and governance adoption.
  • Solid understanding of data governance principles, including policies, cataloging and data quality frameworks.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems, Data Analytics/Science, or related business degree
  • Certification in data governance, data quality, or data management.
  • Experience leading or contributing to enterprise data governance programs
  • Hands-on experience with data catalog tools (e.g. data.world, Collibra, Atlan) and familiarity with data quality tooling.
  • Background in regulated or data-intensive industries (e.g. energy, financial services) and experience working with data classification, retention and compliance frameworks.
