The Ministry of Children and Family Services funds programs and services to support vulnerable children, youth, families, and individuals to live safely and succeed in Alberta. This includes providing services and resources to protect children and youth from abuse and neglect and effectively address harm that has placed them in need of intervention. Mentoring and support services are available to youth transitioning into healthy, productive adults.

The ministry also invests in community-based groups that support prevention and early intervention services such as Family Resource Networks, youth emergency shelters as well as programs that raise awareness and help respond to family violence, sexual violence, and abuse.

Role Responsibilities

Turn data into insights that shape decisions and improve outcomes across the Ministry. As a Data Governance and Analytics Analyst, you will lead complex analytics, research, and reporting initiatives that transform data into meaningful insights for executive decision-making, issues management, public reporting, and strategic planning. Your work will help identify trends, strengthen performance reporting, and drive informed decisions across the Ministry.

Reporting to the Director, Data Management and Governance, this role provides leadership and advanced analytical expertise to support complex data, reporting, and research initiatives, ensuring accurate insights that inform executive decision-making and Ministry priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead advanced research, analytics, and performance measurement: Analyze trends, service quality indicators, and program outcomes to identify risks, opportunities, and insights that support Ministry priorities and decision-making.
• Lead data governance, quality, and analytical infrastructure: Develop and apply data standards, methodologies, quality frameworks, and validation processes to ensure accurate, consistent, and reliable data.
• Lead data extraction, transformation, and integration: Extract, transform, validate, and integrate data from multiple systems and sources to create reliable analytical datasets that support advanced research, performance measurement, reporting, data visualization, and evidence-based decision-making.
• Develop decision-ready reporting, analytics, and data visualization products: Lead the development of dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that translate complex data into clear, decision-ready insights for operational, executive, and public audiences.
• Provide strategic advice and lead issues management: Identify and resolve complex data and reporting issues, communicate emerging risks, and provide evidence-based advice and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
• Build analytical capacity and strengthen collaboration: Mentor analysts, share knowledge, strengthen analytical practices, and collaborate across the Ministry to support consistent, effective use of data and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field (Business, Public Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, Analytics, Data) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalencies:

Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Assets:

• Advanced research and analytical skills, including research methodologies, statistics, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and performance measurement or program evaluation.
• Proficiency in data management, reporting, and visualization tools, including SQL and relational databases, SSRS, Power BI, SAS Visual Analytics, or comparable technologies.
• Strong project management, organization, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and communicate complex or sensitive information clearly.
• Knowledge of Child Intervention programs, policies, processes, and issues affecting Indigenous Peoples and communities.
• Knowledge of plain language, graphic design, and data presentation techniques, with the ability to develop clear, accessible, and audience-focused information products.
