Idaho Power, located in the vibrant community of Boise, Idaho, is seeking a motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our Information Technology team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon, and we’re working hard to provide our customers with the safe, reliable, and affordable energy they depend on.
What does a Senior Data Engineer do for us?
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data solutions that translate complex business processes into a properly structured medallion architecture (bronze, silver, and gold layers). Leveraging tooling within Microsoft Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI, the engineer develops robust data pipelines, integrates data from diverse sources, and ensures high data quality, consistency, and performance across each stage of data refinement. This role requires strong expertise in data modeling and transformation practices, including dimensional modeling techniques, enabling the progression of raw data into curated, business-ready datasets that support efficient analytics, and self-service BI across the organization.
The Senior Data Engineer collaborates closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and data scientists to understand analytics needs and transform them into optimized data models and semantic layers. They utilize modern Microsoft data platform capabilities—including dataflows, notebooks, pipelines, and lakehouse/warehouse architectures—to deliver reliable and scalable solutions. Additionally, the role involves performance tuning, data governance, Source Control, and continuous improvement of data processes to enable accurate, timely insights through Power BI dashboards and enterprise reporting solutions.
In addition to the meaningful work we do, we offer work-life balance, competitive pay and benefits, an employee incentive plan, and both a 401k employer-match and a pension plan, making Idaho Power one of the best employers in the state.
