Data Engineer

Location: Pune

Department: Enterprise Data Management

Reports To: Avdhut Chavan

Type: Full-Time / Permanent

We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Data Enablement & Governance Engineer to support the development and implementation of enterprise-wide data governance practices. This role will assist in cataloging data assets, enhancing metadata management, and improving data quality and compliance processes under the guidance of senior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Data Enablement:

- Assist in onboarding datasets to the enterprise data catalog and maintaining metadata accuracy.

- Support business users in discovering and understanding data through data catalog tools (e.g., Alation, Purview, Collibra).

- Help document business definitions, data owners, and usage guidelines.

- Participate in data literacy and enablement programs by creating documentation and job aids.

Data Governance:

- Support data classification, tagging, and access governance activities.

- Help monitor data quality rules and report issues or anomalies.

- Work with data stewards and data owners to maintain governance standards.

- Assist in documenting data policies and compliance guidelines.

Engineering & Automation:

- Write basic scripts or SQL queries to support data profiling and metadata extraction.

- Support integration of metadata and governance tags into data pipelines.

- Help build dashboards and reports to track data enablement KPIs.

Requirements

Must-Have:

- 3–5 years of experience in data management, data governance, or related fields.

- Basic understanding of data catalog, data quality, or metadata management concepts.

- Familiarity with SQL and scripting languages such as Python.

- Exposure to data tools like Power BI, Snowflake, Azure Data Services, or similar.

- Strong communication skills and willingness to work cross-functionally.

Nice-to-Have:

- Experience with any data catalog or governance tool (Alation, Collibra, Informatica, Purview, etc.).

- Knowledge of data privacy, data classification, or compliance frameworks.

- Understanding of ETL pipelines, data warehousing, or business intelligence processes.
