We're looking for a talented Data Engineer IV to join our team supporting a complex Federal Government customer in Northern Virginia (Alexandria/Falls Church area) This individual will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting complex enterprise data solutions. You will work across data infrastructure, databases, data pipelines, ETL/ELT, and system integration while providing technical leadership to ensure data environments are reliable, scalable, secure, and efficient.

Work Location:

  • Onsite – Northern Virginia (Alexandria/Falls Church area)

Clearance:

Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain Government security clearance.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and optimization of enterprise data infrastructure and data engineering solutions.
  • Provide senior technical expertise for enterprise databases, data platforms, ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, and data integration environments.
  • Design and oversee complex data pipelines and integration solutions supporting multiple systems, applications, and data sources.
  • Develop and optimize advanced SQL queries, stored procedures, database objects, and data processing solutions.
  • Establish technical approaches and best practices for data ingestion, transformation, integration, storage, and processing.
  • Lead the troubleshooting and resolution of complex and high-impact issues involving databases, data pipelines, integrations, and enterprise data infrastructure.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of complex technical issues and develop sustainable solutions to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Evaluate existing data environments and recommend improvements to architecture, performance, automation, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership for data migration, transformation, integration, and modernization initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies for monitoring data pipelines, database environments, and data processing activities.
  • Establish and enforce standards for data engineering development, testing, deployment, documentation, and operational support.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, database administrators, analysts, governance teams, and business stakeholders to develop enterprise data solutions.
  • Translate complex technical and business requirements into scalable and sustainable data engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to Data Engineers and other technical staff.
  • Review technical designs, code, data models, integration approaches, and implementation plans for quality and adherence to established standards.
  • Identify opportunities to automate data processes, improve operational efficiency, and reduce manual intervention.
  • Develop and maintain technical architecture documentation, data flows, integration patterns, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Support security, data governance, configuration management, change management, and compliance requirements applicable to enterprise data environments.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in data engineering, database engineering, data integration, ETL/ELT, enterprise data infrastructure, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-scale data solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience working with enterprise relational database platforms.
  • Extensive experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating data across multiple databases, applications, APIs, and enterprise systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing data transformation, migration, and integration solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, data flows, and enterprise data environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and lead root-cause analysis.
  • Experience optimizing database, pipeline, and data processing performance.
  • Ability to evaluate technical approaches and recommend solutions based on scalability, performance, maintainability, and operational requirements.
  • Experience developing technical standards, documentation, procedures, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers and technical staff.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide technical direction in a complex enterprise environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other enterprise relational database platforms.
  • Experience with enterprise ETL/data integration technologies such as SSIS, Informatica, Talend, Azure Data Factory, or similar platforms.
  • Experience designing and implementing REST APIs, web services, or event-driven integrations.
  • Experience with Python, PowerShell, Java, or other programming/scripting languages used for data engineering and automation.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud data platforms and services.
  • Experience with enterprise data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, and dimensional data modeling.
  • Experience with data architecture and enterprise data platform modernization.
  • Experience leading large-scale data migration or modernization initiatives.
  • Experience implementing data quality, metadata, lineage, and data governance practices.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other business intelligence platforms.
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD, DevOps, and automated deployment practices.
  • Experience with containerization, orchestration, or cloud-native data technologies.
  • Experience establishing technical standards, architecture patterns, or engineering best practices.
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical teams.
  • Experience supporting U.S. government or federal contracting programs.
  • Active or previously held U.S. government security clearance.
  • Relevant professional certifications in cloud, database, data engineering, architecture, or information technology.

Salary Range

$110,000-$155,000

The posted salary range represents the anticipated compensation for this position. Final compensation will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, years of directly relevant experience, education, certifications, security clearance, contract requirements, and other business considerations.
