We are looking for an experienced data engineer to join an innovative data platform team within a leading media organization based in Brussels, Belgium
This freelance opportunity is ideal for a cloud-focused data engineering professional with expertise in AWS, ELT pipelines, and modern data platform technologies. You will help expand and optimize a cloud-native data lake, build scalable data pipelines, and support analytics and business intelligence initiatives that drive data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable data management systems.
- Build and expand cloud-based data lake solutions.
- Develop robust ELT pipelines for integrating data from multiple source systems.
- Design and implement data pipelines for analytics and business intelligence use cases.
- Transform and model data using DBT.
- Monitor and improve data quality across the platform.
- Contribute to the continuous optimization of existing data platform components.
- Apply data governance principles to ensure reliable and secure data management.
- Work collaboratively within a cross-functional data & AI team.
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to business stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a data engineer.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
- Experience with:
- Strong Python development skills.
- Excellent SQL knowledge.
- Experience building ELT and data pipeline solutions.
- Knowledge of cloud data architecture and modern data platforms.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in Agile environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Apache Spark.
- Experience with Apache Airflow or other workflow orchestration tools.
- Experience using DBT for data transformation.
- Knowledge of Go.
- Experience with AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience with AWS big data services, including Glue, Athena, EMR, Kinesis, and SageMaker.
- Experience with AWS messaging and integration services (SNS, SQS, API Gateway).
- Experience with AWS security services, including IAM and KMS.
- Experience within the media industry.
- AWS Solutions Architect Certification.
- Dutch language proficiency (CEFR C2).
