Surgo Health is a Public Benefit Corporation building the world’s most comprehensive and insightful AI-powered data platform that reveals the why behind people’s behaviors. We uncover the unseen drivers of health - people’s beliefs, barriers, and behaviors - and transform that intelligence into scalable products that enable healthcare organizations to drive impact, reduce costs, and advance inclusion. From improving clinical trial design to optimizing care delivery and public health strategies, our solutions help decision-makers act on what truly shapes health outcomes. By revealing the human side of healthcare, we’re making it more personal, precise, and effective - for everyone.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our growing R&D Engineering team. If you are excited by the idea of turning data into scientific models and scalable, production-ready systems that support healthcare innovation—this is the role for you.
As part of a collaborative and fast-paced team, you’ll play a key role in supporting our Scientists and Engineers to scale impact across a diverse set of health and behavior datasets and their metadata. You'll help take prototypes and turn them into robust data infrastructure that supports scalable pipelines, analytics, and machine learning operations. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their Data Engineering career who is eager to grow, learn, and make a difference.

What you’ll achieve:

  • Productionize Databricks notebooks created by our Scientists
  • Create, manage, and enhance data pipelines that support ML and analytics workflows
  • Support and collaborate closely with our Head of Engineering
  • Improve and maintain our cloud-based data infrastructure on Azure and AWS
  • Help support and enforce best practices for data engineering, curation, and notebook development
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure data products align with our platform principles and scientific goals
  • Build scalable and efficient pipelines that connect raw data and metadata to insights and products
  • Help evolve our use of the Databricks platform, and our broader Azure/AWS cloud environments
  • Translate Python/SQL/R code from exploration to production-grade
  • Be a hands-on partner to Scientists, supporting their work and helping scale their models
  • Contribute to shaping our engineering culture and infrastructure as we grow

About you:

  • You have a solid foundation in data engineering and/or MLOps and are excited to keep learning
  • You have experience with Databricks
  • You have experience in Python, R and SQL transformations and data pipeline creation
  • You're familiar with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
  • You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • You hold a University degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • You communicate well and enjoy being part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team
  • You thrive in fast-moving environments where you can take ownership and iterate quickly
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • You’re comfortable working remotely, with at least 50% timezone overlap with US/GMT

Surgo Health

About Surgo Health

We are a mission-driven AI company on a quest to humanize healthcare—powered by science, shaped by values.

Surgo Health is building healthcare’s universal “Why Engine”—an AI-powered platform that generates novel intelligence about the people behind the patients and uses this to power smarter, more human-centered care.

Too many decisions in healthcare are made without a full understanding of individuals and the barriers they face in engaging with their care. These barriers—whether related to participating in clinical trials, accessing preventive or treatment services, or adhering to medication—are often non-clinical. Yet they remain largely overlooked, leading to inefficiencies and missed opportunities.

The future of healthcare will rest on a deep understanding of people—not just as clinical entities, but as human beings shaped by context, experience, and behavior.

We generate data, build products, and design solutions. We are equally engaged with policy—because we believe real shifts in healthcare require real policy change. Our work enables smarter client action, better investment decisions, and systems-level transformation powered by evidence-based policy.
