What is your role?
As a Data Engineer, you will build, maintain, and support data pipelines and cloud-based data solutions for Corning’s manufacturing and operational environments.
You will collaborate with manufacturing teams, analysts, data scientists, and technology partners to deliver clean and reliable data for reporting, analytics, operational decision-making, and AI/ML applications.
This position is ideal for a hands-on Data Engineer who has strong Python and SQL fundamentals and is interested in growing within modern data platforms, manufacturing data, and AI-enabled solutions.
Major responsibilities and tasks of the position:
- Build, test, and support reliable ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver manufacturing, operational, and business data.
- Develop clean and production-ready datasets for reporting, analytics, manufacturing visibility, and AI/ML applications.
- Implement automated data-quality checks, validation rules, monitoring, and troubleshooting processes to improve data reliability.
- Support cloud data-platform operations, pipeline performance, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with manufacturing, analytics, IT, and business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver scalable solutions.
What do you need to have?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or another related technical discipline.
- At least 1 year of experience in data engineering, data integration, ETL/ELT development, analytics engineering, or a related data-focused role.
- At least 2 years of programming experience using Python, including the ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code.- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases, data modeling, and data transformations.
- Hands-on experience building or supporting data pipelines using Apache Spark, PySpark, SparkSQL, or comparable distributed data-processing technologies.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks or Snowflake.
- Experience working with manufacturing, production, industrial, operational, equipment, quality, or supply-chain data.
- Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. AWS experience is preferred.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What would be helpful?
- Experience with data-quality automation, data observability, or automated monitoring.- Exposure to AI/ML data pipelines, model-training data preparation, intelligent automation, or AI-enabled data workflows.
- Experience with Kafka, Flink, or other streaming technologies.
- Experience with time-series data, sensor data, industrial IoT, or operational technology data.- Familiarity with Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, PI Integrator, Camstar, Maximo, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
