Job Description

The Data Center Technician II (L2) is responsible for supporting the deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of server, storage, network, and infrastructure equipment within the data center. This role serves as a primary technical resource during overnight operations, independently handling hardware installations, break/fix activities, diagnostics, and operational support to ensure maximum uptime and reliability of critical systems. The technician is expected to work with minimal supervision, respond to incidents, and assist with project-based deployments while maintaining operational excellence and adherence to established procedures.

Schedule:

  • Full-Time
  • Graveyard Shift: 8:00 PM - 7:00 AM
  • Assigned to one of the following schedules: Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday
  • Shift assignment based on business needs
  • Weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required to support critical operations, maintenance windows, and deployment activities

How You Will Make a Difference:

Hardware Deployment & Installation

  • Unbox, stage, and prepare equipment for deployment.
  • Rack and stack servers, storage systems, network devices, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Install, route, and manage fiber and copper cabling according to data center standards.
  • Label and document equipment, power connections, and cable runs.
  • Support server migrations, rack builds, and infrastructure expansion projects.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Execute hardware upgrades including memory, CPUs, storage drives, NICs, power supplies, and GPUs.
  • Perform server initialization, validation, and post-deployment testing.
  • Support equipment decommissioning and disposal processes.

Troubleshooting & Break/Fix

  • Diagnose and resolve server, storage, and hardware failures.
  • Troubleshoot boot failures, hardware alerts, connectivity issues, and performance concerns.
  • Perform component replacements and system recovery activities.
  • Escalate complex technical issues to engineering teams or vendors when necessary.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action efforts.

Data Center Operations

  • Monitor data center infrastructure and respond to operational alerts.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs to inspect equipment and identify issues.
  • Support power, cooling, and environmental monitoring activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, security, and operational standards.

Documentation & Asset Management

  • Maintain accurate records in ticketing and asset management systems.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, installations, and maintenance performed.
  • Update inventory records and track hardware movements.
  • Follow change management and operational procedures.

Team Support

  • Provide technical guidance and support to L1 Data Center Technicians.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Collaborate with engineering, network, systems, and project teams to complete operational objectives.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

  • 2+ years of experience in a data center, IT operations, hardware support, or related technical environment.
  • Experience performing server hardware installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of rack-and-stack operations and structured cabling.
  • Experience with ticket management, asset tracking, and change management processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware issues independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work overnight shifts in a production data center environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Dell, HPE, Supermicro, Lenovo, or Cisco server platforms.
  • Experience supporting GPU-based infrastructure and high-performance computing environments.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
  • Experience using iDRAC, iLO, IPMI, and other remote management tools.
  • Knowledge of storage systems and network hardware.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, or equivalent certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, and install equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to perform repetitive deployment, cabling, and hardware installation tasks.
  • Comfortable working overnight shifts in a production data center environment.
