About the Role

Join Reboot Monkey as a Freelance Data Center Technician in Sydney, Australia. This is an hourly, on-demand contract opportunity supporting data center operations at client facilities across the Sydney area.

Assignments are based on client demand and may include hardware installation, structured cabling, equipment replacement, troubleshooting, and data center migrations. There are no guaranteed weekly hours, and technicians are paid for the actual hours worked on assigned tickets or projects.

Work Schedule

• Flexible, dispatch-based schedule
• No guaranteed fixed working hours or standard 8-hour workday
• Assignments may range from short-duration tickets to full-day or longer projects
• Occasional nights, weekends, and short-notice assignments may be required
• Work is generally within or near the Sydney area, depending on client demand
• Technicians should be comfortable working independently onsite and coordinating with remote teams

Key Responsibilities

Depending on experience and assigned tier, responsibilities may include:

• Install, replace, and maintain servers, networking equipment, and other data center hardware
• Perform rack and stack, equipment deployment, de-racking, and decommissioning
• Install, organize, label, and troubleshoot copper and fiber-optic cabling
• Replace hardware components, power cycle equipment, and perform hardware break/fix
• Install and troubleshoot SFPs, QSFPs, transceivers, and specialized hardware where applicable
• Support data center migrations, equipment moves, and infrastructure upgrades
• Troubleshoot physical and connectivity issues, escalating when necessary
• Follow client MOPs, SOPs, safety procedures, and change-management requirements
• Maintain accurate ticket records, asset information, photos, and service documentation
• Coordinate with project managers, remote engineers, vendors, and client teams

Requirements

Requirements

• Relevant experience in data center operations, server infrastructure, networking, or field engineering
• Hands-on technical experience appropriate to the assigned tier
• Ability to work independently onsite with minimal supervision
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to accept occasional evening, night, weekend, or short-notice assignments
• Access to basic tools and equipment required for onsite tasks
• Valid driver's license where required for the assignment

Work Authorization
